In loving memory of

Sarah Elizabeth Williams
November 13, 1932 - January 10, 2023

Sarah Elizabeth Williams (nee Adams) of Omaha, NE, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2023, at the age of 90.

Sarah was born on November 13, 1932 to Alfred Adams, Sr., and Elsie Hoberg Adams in Madison, WI. She had a lifelong love of her birth state with cherished memories of a summer spent on Chequamegon Bay and country drives learning about glacial formations from her dad. As an eight-year old Sarah moved with her family to Omaha where she graduated from Benson High School and then earned a degree in journalism from the University of Iowa where she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority and a Phi Beta Kappa. Before marrying her husband of 65 years, Warren Robert (Bob) Williams, and devoting herself to her family Sarah was a full-time writer for the Jefferson Bee and Herald followed by the Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil. After
many years tending the home front Sarah returned to the workforce at Universal Information Services getting paid to read newspapers in search of content relevant to clients.

Following in her mother's footsteps, Sarah was a devout Christian Scientist her entire life, serving her church in many capacities through the years including as a reader and chair of the board. She respected the different faith choices of her family, feeling what was most important was for them to be good people. Sarah shared her talents generously with the PTA, as a Camp Fire Girls and Girl Scout leader, a room mother, and protecting the interests of children by serving on the Nebraska Foster Care Review Board for twenty-five years. She was an accomplished seamstress sewing not only for herself and children but also creating countless intricately detailed Barbie outfits. She loved murder mysteries as long as they were not gruesome, classical music, and watching the birds at the back yard feeders. Her membership in the Omaha Corral of Westerners International fueled her interest in learning and meant she always had a book about frontier history on the shelf.

Sarah is survived by her loving husband, Bob, son David Williams (Hilary Benton) Santa Cruz, CA, daughters Lynne Simpson Green Bay, WI, and Elaine Williams (Andrew Hanson) Lewiston, ID, grandchildren Rachel Hanley (Aaron Huntington) Clovis, CA, Daniella Hanley, Oakland, CA, Joshua Simpson (Alyssa Charlier) Allouez, WI, Nathan Simpson (Taylor Powers) South Salt Lake, UT, James Simpson Minneapolis, MN, Claire Hanson New Milford, CT, and great grandson Benjamin Simpson.

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter Lydia Hanson, brother Alfred Adams, Jr., sister Edith Adams, sister-in-law Betty Adams, and son-in-law, Jim Simpson.

Sarah will be remembered for her gentle, loving, and strong character, her bright smile, her fierce dedication to her family, her sense of style, her curiosity, her love of new experiences, and running the household with a reduce, reuse, recycle philosophy long before the idea caught on.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 14, at 2:00 p.m. at Second Church of Christ, Scientist, 9124 Bedford Ave., Omaha, NE 68134. Friends and family may call at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the service.

Memorials in Sarah's memory may be directed to Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Omaha, or the Salvation Army, 10755 Burt St., Omaha, NE 68114. Flowers may be sent to Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
