Ronald Roy "Ron" Durk, age 89, of Mendon, IL, died Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at 2:22 pm in Blessing Hospital.
Ron was born September 1, 1933 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of John and Frances Meyer Durk. He married Doris Jean Stevens on October 11, 1952 at Central Baptist Church in Quincy. She preceded him in death on December 4, 2016.
Ron attended Quincy High School. He then worked for Bueter Baking Company until they closed in 1976. In that same year, Ron and Doris bought Unity Lanes Bowling Alley in Mendon, which they operated until its closing in 1996.
Ron was an active member of Central Baptist Church where he was involved in Sunday School and a member of the deaconate. Ron and Doris also belonged to the Loyal Workers class and the Pairs and Spares.
The Durks were one of the first families to be involved with the Chaddock foster parents program and in which they were active until Doris passed away in 2016. They received several honors for their involvement including the Chaddock Rose Tea Award, the Carlene Geisler Award, and the Sammy Award.
In his spare time, Ron enjoyed playing golf, baseball, softball, and racquetball. Naturally, he was an avid bowler.
Survivors include: his daughter, Ronna Jean Rife of Mendon, IL; two grandchildren: Christina Marie Rife of Quincy and David Allen (Tiffany) Rife of Mendon; two great-granddaughters: Addison Sue Rife and Elise Doris Jean Rife; two brothers: Milton (Katy) Durk and Robert (Mary) Durk, all of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Ron was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Mike Durk.
Services: 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Central Baptist, with Pastor Jason Sommerfeldt officiating.
Burial: Quincy Memorial Park, Quincy, Illinois
Visitation: 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Central Baptist Church.
