In loving memory of

Denise Collette Smead
February 20, 1951 - March 17, 2022

We regretfully announce the passing of Denise Collette Smead, 71, of Phoenix, AZ, on March 17, 2022.

Denise was born on February 20, 1951, and was the only child of Francis and Virginia Kelly in Los Angeles, CA. As a child, Denise traveled extensively throughout Europe with her parents. After graduating from Cleveland High School in Reseda, she then earned an Associate's Degree from Pierce College. In 1980, Denise moved from California to Phoenix, AZ. Living in the Valley of the Sun, she most enjoyed outdoor living in the Southwest and volunteering at her daughter's school. Later, she went on to work in the printing industry until her retirement in 2016.

Denise was described as a cheerful, compassionate, easy going woman who was kind to everyone. She was always smiling. She loved to spend time in her extensive garden and was an avid hiker throughout her life. She enjoyed daily walks and loved to read and spend time with her family. She took many trips with her only Daughter, Stephanie, and Grandchildren and was always up for an adventure.

She lives on through her daughter, Stephanie (David) and her cherished grandchildren, Matthew and Claire Kahn, her partner of many years, Chuck Hoover, and her sister-in-law Pam (Robin). She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial bench at the Phoenix Zoo honors Denise, as it was a favorite place of hers.

Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, she is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
