Wilma Maude Lewis, 95 of Carson, IA, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022 at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold, IA. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the Carson Cemetery. Loess Hills Funeral Home in Carson is caring for Wilma and her family.

OBITUARY
Wilma Maude Lewis, 95 of Carson, IA, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022 at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold, IA.
Wilma, one of seven children of Ray Gaies and Sylvia Maude (Carr) Batten, was born on May 4, 1927 on a farm near Silver City, Iowa. Wilma grew up in the Silver City area and later her family moved to Macedonia, Iowa where she attended school through the 10th grade. Following school, Wilma worked as a housekeeper and took care of children.
Wilma and Joe Dean Lewis of Macedonia were married in Omaha, Nebraska on February 16, 1946. They established their home on a farm southeast of Oakland, Iowa. In November 1951, Joe and Wilma moved to a farm they purchased southeast of Edina, Missouri. In addition to operating the family farm, Joe worked for the Missouri Highway Department and Wilma worked as a dental assistant. Their marriage was blessed with two beautiful children, Joey Dean and Tamy Jean.
Wilma and Joe became members of the Edina First Christian Church on August 30, 1955. Wilma later worked as a cook for five years at the Knox County R-1 rural school district near Edina. Wilma and Joe loved flying and were members of the Edina Fly Club. They had a runway made on their farm so they could fly to Carson and visit family and friends.
In 1996, Wilma and Joe celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, sold their farm, retired and moved into the town of Edina. On May 6, 2004, they sold their home and moved to Carson, Iowa be closer to their family. They joined the Carson United Methodist Church on February 5, 2006. One of their proud accomplishments was reading the entire Bible. That same year, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. One of their many enjoyments was eating tacos at Taco Bell.
In July 2013, Wilma and Joe moved to live near their daughter Tamy in Rathdrum, Idaho. Joe passed away in Coeur D Alene, Idaho on August 19, 2013. Wilma soon returned to live in Carson.
Wilma was a busy housewife and mother and enjoyed working with her flowers and garden. She loved helping and spending time with her husband, family, friends and neighbors. Her children and grandson were her pride and joy.
In addition to her beloved husband Joe, Wilma was also preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law Michael Galbraith; brothers, Wayne Batten, Glen Batten and wife Marge, Marlin Batten and wife Phyllis, and Galen Batten; sisters, Lois Corbin and husband Don, and Phyllis Pendegraft and husband Reggie; niece Judy Pendegraft; and nephews, Ed Batten, Randy Corbin, and Mark Batten.
Wilma is survived by her son Joey Lewis of Franklin, TN; her daughter Tamy Galbraith and husband John Lynn of Athol, ID; grandson John Michael Joseph Galbraith; other extended relatives; and a host of friends.
