David John Sorenson was born June 25, 1940, to Clarence and Freida Sorenson in Peru, Illinois. When David was a young boy his family moved to Quincy Illinois where he grew up. They attended Salem United Church of Christ where he learned about Jesus Christ and his great love for us. He sang in the Choir at Salem with his father. He was also a student of the piano discovering his love for music and his natural gift to play. His piano teacher would have to remind him to play what was written as he had a habit of adding to a piece that he was playing. In 1958 David graduated from Quincy High School where he participated in band and played basketball. David attended Gem City College in Quincy, IL getting a degree in business. While attending college David met Nancy Jane Adkisson and fell head over heels in love with her and they were married on June 24th 1961. He was devoted to three things his entire life: His Lord Jesus Christ, His beloved Wife "Nan" and his family. He loved woodworking and enjoyed making things for his children and grandchildren and he made them to last generations. David enjoyed dogs and always had a faithful canine friend in his home. He loved to encourage others through the written word and many of his letters will be cherished for years to come.

David served his Lord as a lay leader and Choir director (Minister of Music) in several churches over the years always praising God with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. He also served as a Chaplin at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL for several years.

He served his country by joining the Air Force during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Takhli, Thailand.

David worked as a Service Writer for Gem City Ford in Quincy, IL; Poage Chevrolet in Hannibal, MO and Dale Howard Chevrolet in Iowa Falls, IA. He was a salesperson at Younkers Store for Homes in Des Moines, IA; a store manager for Diamond Vogel Paints in Des Moines, IA and a Parts Manager for Neff Company John Deere in Avon, IL.

Some of his last words were that he had been in between a rock and a hard place many times in his life but the Lord was always with him and he just had to ask him what to do next and the Lord always got him through it.

David will be remembered as a loving husband, father and friend. He loved to help others and was always kind and considerate of others. He loved spending time with his family always wanting them close.
