In loving memory of

JUDY ANN SAROSIK
July 11, 1947 - November 16, 2022

Judy Ann Sarosik, 75, a lifelong resident of Marquette transitioned on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 after a 5 ½ month struggle with cancer.

Judy is leaving behind a loving husband, son, five granddaughters, one godchild and four great-grandchildren. She was very proud of her Native American Heritage and was a member of the Anishinaabe Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. Besides being an artist and educator, she was an environmentalist, a soul sister and a women's rights activist.

Judy was a leader in education through the Michigan Reading Association and Young Authors. Her ability to make connections and establish relationships with children allowed her to encourage story-telling, poetry and writing in her young students. As a mentor and friend many future teachers learned in her classroom by her example, patience and care.

Judy loved being surrounded by nature; for nature and art were her inspirations. Her peace crane mobiles fly on driftwood, hand-picked from the shores of Lake Superior and the Yellow Dog River. Judy believed in balance and peace. Her smile, her timely advice, and warm demeanor will be missed by artists that knew her and loved her so... She is now in all of our hearts where her spirit continues.

Per Judy's request no formal visitation or service will be held.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Judy's name and memory to a charity of your choice.

"Deepest sympathies to Judy?s husband, son and extended family. I worked on several educational projects with Judy over the years. We did young authors together in our early teaching careers and then some state wide technology curriculum for Detroit Children?s public TV that received an Emmy award. She was a talented and creative soul who loved teaching and loved life! She will be missed by all who knew her. Rest In Peace Judy. Sincerely, Betty Burke-Coduti"

"We lost one of the goods... However we've also gained an angel, and one of the best ones you could imagine. Judy showed up in one of the darkest times of my life and held a space of love an acceptance which I desperately needed. She sure had a knack for bringing a smile to the faces of those who nee it most. I know very little of her history of teaching, but the many lessons Judy taught me in my young life have been truly priceless. I will miss her smile, kindness, and tender friendship, Love you, Jude, "

"Judy was a wonderful teacher and colleague. She inspired many to do their best in all things. She encouraged me to be a co-director of Young Authors for two years which was a highlight to my teaching career. In my retirement I was fortunate to have many enjoyable conversations at the YMCA where she and I swam on a regular basis. My condolences, Colleen Hayse "

"To Judy's family, I am so sorry for your loss. Judy's smile was contagious and she was a lovely person. I always enjoyed when she would come to my store & we would chat. She had a wonderful connection with her granddaughters. She used to bring her granddaughter Lexi to the library when she was little. Along with my Mother Pat Frenn & my daughter Zoey they all bonded over preschool reading time. She would always ask about Zoey and check in on her years later. Best wishes."
