Phyllis (Smith) Grady, 60, of Ankeny, formerly of Fort Dodge, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 3rd in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on. Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home.
Survivors include her children Shawn Smith of Fort Dodge, Jarrico Smith of Des Moines, Talia Smith of Ankeny, Tyler Grady of California, Nathaniel Grady of Des Moines, and Corrina Grady of Des Moines, 12 grandchildren, brother Bobby Joe Smith, sisters Belinda Smith, and Betty Thetford, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Willie and Josephine (Kersey) Smith, husband Nathaniel Grady, infant twins, Tasha Monique and Tyrell Montrell, sisters Willie Jean, Elaine Smith, and Cynthia Smith.
Phyllis Stein Smith was born on January 9, 1962, in Fort Dodge. She was raised and educated here and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1980. She was united in marriage to Nathaniel Grady and the couple made their home in Des Moines. He passed away in 2004. Phyllis was a wonderful homemaker and would often have 2 or 3 other jobs to support her family. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she was very proud of all of them. Phyllis spent a lot of time with her best friend and father of her children William Miller. She enjoyed going for drives especially around lakes. Phyllis always put her family first.
