Leon "Hank" Neppl, 87, of Glenwood, IA, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022 at his home.
Hank, son of Christopher William and Mary Matilda (Rutten) Neppl was born on October 18, 1935 in Crawford County, IA. He spent his childhood running through the timber in his community, looking for and collecting Indian relic and kept his vast collection his entire life. He loved talking about racing his Hudson on the backroads of Denison. On November 19, 1955 he married Elizabeth (Betty) Loew. The couple was blessed with seven children.
Hank had fond memories of traveling with his kids and working with his four boys, as when they got older all four joined him in the railroad tie industry. Hank liked to refer to himself as the "Tiecoon Man". His three daughters were the apples of his eye. When the kids started getting married, grandkids came quickly and every single one had a special nickname from Grandpa. Actually, every person Hank came in contact with had a special nickname, some nicer than others.
Betty and Hank enjoyed spending time together, even the recent times of just staying at home and watching the news. Betty was always very amused by Hank, giggling at him and his crazy antics. Hank loved westerns and idolized John Wayne, claiming often to know him personally. Hank also loved antiques, especially antique stoves. He had a unique talent of restoring them back to their full glory and was known around the country for this talent. He founded the Antique Stove Association and was very proud of that.
Hank is preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeff Neppl; grandson, Jake North; granddaughter, Jamie Richardson; great granddaughter Oaklynn Slater; brothers, Urban, Elmer and Duane; sisters, Lucille, Maxine, and Marian.

"Hank was a cantankerous old teddy bear. He never seemed to age in the pictures I?d see of him. I?m actually shocked he?s gone. He just seemed like someone who would always be there. He made me laugh out loud a few different times a long time ago. Thank you for that, Hank. Thank you for being such a great dad to the whole Neppl family, all such great people themselves. Rest in peace. You will be sorely missed. "
