August "Butch" Miller
August 7, 1944 - November 13, 2022

Smithfield -August "Butch" Miller, 78 passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at his residence.
He was born on August 7, 1944 in Hancock County, IL to Leonard and Frances (Arnold) Miller. They preceded him in death.
He married Palma P. Parsons on April 25, 1969 in Canton. She survives.
Also surviving are five children, James Miller of Smithfield, Monica (Russell) Doyle of Canton, Travis Miller of Smithfield, Pollie Miller of Smithfield, Iris Miller of Carthage, sixteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, one brother, Henry (Gloria) Miller of Warsaw, IL, three sisters-in-law, Georgia Franzoni of Norris, Beverly Parson of Canton, Norma Parsons of Smithfield and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one infant son John Danial Miller, two sisters and four brothers.
Butch was a farm boy after his schooling. He worked at a sawmill, drove a school bus and was a construction equipment operator. He then became a over the road truck driver for 31 years. After his trucking retirement he worked for Test in Cuba, Smithfield Water Department and for the City of Smithfield.
He was a loving and devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather. He loved to mow and tinker with his tractors. He enjoyed his grandkids and spending time with his great grandkids. He loved watching his shows, Pondarosa, Mr Majestyk and other westerns and if you ever stopped by you better be ready to watch him crack his walnuts. Butch enjoyed a good laugh and asked everyone who stopped by if they were ready to stack or split firewood.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 11 am at the Red Brick School in Smithfield. There will be a dinner following the service at the Red Brick School for family and friends.
Cremation rites have been accorded by Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.
Burial of his ashes will take place at the Norris Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials can be made to the Red Brick School in Smithfield or St Mary's Church Food Pantry in Canton.
