Priscilla Burton Murray, age 83, of Quincy, died on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 12"05 a.m. in her home.
Priscilla was born on January 17, 1939 in Winchester, MA, a daughter of Myron S. and Esther S. Burton. She married Henry D. Murray on May 30, 1964. He preceded her in death on June 1, 2018.
Priscilla attended Oberlin College for two years, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Minnesota in 1960 with a degree in English Literature. She attended McCormick Theological Seminary and interned in the college chaplaincy at Smith College in Massachusetts. She then worked as a Christian educator in Chicago, where she met Henry.
Priscilla and Henry moved to Quincy in 1977. Priscilla had studied voice at Oberlin and at Minneapolis McPhail. She sang for a total of 25 years in the Minnesota, Oak Park, IL, and Quincy Symphony Choruses. She also directed choirs in both Chicago and Quincy churches.
She had been active as a volunteer in several Quincy organizations, and she was an active member of Church Women United at the time of her death.
Priscilla is survived by her son, Philip Murray of Quincy; eight nieces, one nephew, and several children who have shared the Murray's home from time to time.
In addition to her husband, Priscilla was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Mary Burton Harvey and Dr. Alice Burton; and two brothers: Jonathan Burton and David Burton.
Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2022 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Services: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2022 in the First Union Congregational Church with Rev. Darwin Smith officiating
