Irma Jean Schmidt
January 7, 1936 - November 2, 2022

Irma Jean Vickers Schmidt, 86, adoring wife, loving mother and grandmother passed away at home on November 2, 2022, after a battle with Lewey Body Dementia.

Irma Jean Vickers was born on January 7, 1936 in Coffee County Georgia to her parents Micajah and Maggie Vickers. She was the youngest of 8 with 4 older sisters and 3 older brothers.

Irma Jean met her husband, Haven, while he was playing professional baseball in Douglas, Georgia in 1954. They reunited again in 1957 and married on September 5, 1957. Irma Jean was a loving mother to their children, Sandra Lyn, Haven Lee and David Christian.

Irma Jean was born a Georgia Peach and became a Zwingle farm wife, after Haven and Irma Jean retired from farming they moved to Swagosa Drive in Maquoketa. Irma Jean was an outstanding cook and gardener. She specialized in southern cooking that her family loved like the best fried chicken ever, corn bread and black-eyed peas.

Irma Jean held a special love for her 6 grandchildren. Kari, Daniel, Emma, Nyah, Meghan and Ryan were the lights of her life.

Irma Jean loved people. She could be found on the street, in grocery store or on her front porch talking to everyone that would come by - especially anyone with who she could banter.

Irma Jean is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Haven, her daughter Sandy Kennedy (Sean) and sons, Lee Schmidt (Pam) and David. Her grandchildren Kari Estes (Brian), Daniel Schmidt (Ashley), Emma Schmidt, Nyah Schmidt, Meghan Kennedy and Ryan Kennedy (Crystal). And, six great grandchildren. Her sole surviving sibling Ralph Waldo Vickers.
Irma Jean will be forever reflected in the love and memories shared by her family.

A gathering of family and friends celebrating her life will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Friday, November 11, 2022, in "The Bistro" at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. A private family burial will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Jackson County.
