Stanley Phillips
September 30, 1950 - October 30, 2022
Stanley Clifford Phillips was born on September 30, 1950, a son to Clifford G. and Opal R. Phillips of Quincy, IL. He passed away on October 30, 2022 at the Illinois Veterans Home due to multiple, military service related health issues. He lived most of his life in the greater Quincy area. He attended Adams Elementary School and Quincy Junior High School until his parents moved to Pike County, Illinois to pastor three country churches in the Baylis, Fishhook and Woodland area, During that time Stanley attended and graduated from Pittsfield High School in Pittsfield, Illinois.
Upon leaving high school, Stanley served in the United States Army in Vietnam as part of the communications office for General William Westmoreland in Saigon. He also saw active duty in several combat situations during the campaign.
Upon his return to America, it was later determined that, as a result of his military service experiences and his contact with the defoliant chemical, Agent Orange, Stanley was found to be suffering with severe PTSD and numerous other emotional and medical conditions which left him disabled. After the passing of his father, he went to stay with his mother to keep her company for a few months until they moved to Curtis Creek Retirement Center. Because of multiple health issues, he moved to Ilinois Veterans Home where he lived and was cared for until the time of his death.
He is survived by his mother, Opal R. Phillips, his wife, Brandi N. Phillips (Quincy, IL), his step-son, Hung Pho and his wife Huong Vo (Vietnam), his stepdaughter, Phuong Pho and her husband Dung Tran (Sacramento, CA), his step-daughter, Victoria C. Brown and her husband Edward L. Brown (Quincy,IL), his stepson, Kyle Pho and his wife NgocTram Quach (Quincy, IL), his brother, Steven G. Phillips and his wife Rachyl F. Phillips, his niece, Taylor V. Phillips and seven step grandchildren.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for November 18th at 10:00am at All Faiths Chapel at the Illinois Veterans Home at 1707 N 12th St, Quincy, IL 62301 where he will be interned in their Memorial Wall.
In lieu of flowers, any contributions that are made will be donated to the IL Veterans Home and American Diabetes Association to help support Veterans, research, education and Advocacy for Diabetes.
