In loving memory of

Sybil Kamber
June 8, 1928 - October 28, 2022

Sybil Kamber squeezed every ounce of joy, love and compassion out of her 94-years of life. She passed away at her Quincy home, surrounded by loved ones, on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 1:35 pm.

Sybil was born June 8, 1928 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Henry and Jenny Galansky Glickman. She graduated from Allentown High School in 1946.

Sybil married the love of her life, Nanton "Nate" Kamber, in Allentown, PA on June 20, 1948. She and Nate decided in 1964 to move to Quincy, where they ran Kamber Clothes next to Washington Park until they chose to retire in 1984.

Sybil loved to ride her bicycle around town and loved to go swimming or visit a beach, where she would pick up seashells to take home and add to one of the little bowls of shells scattered throughout her home. She also loved to visit garage sales and to crochet. Sybil volunteered at Blessing Hospital, making teddy bears for kids who had to visit the emergency room.

Sybil was a breast cancer survivor and a huge fan of Neil Diamond and Michael Buble. She was also an amazing cook, though not as much for herself, but for those she loved. It was not uncommon for someone to visit Sybil and leave with a frozen brisket, a bag of frozen cookies, a frozen eggplant parmesan, and anything else she felt you needed. That was one of so many ways that Sybil showed her love to you.

Sybil never missed a holiday, a birthday, or an anniversary. She was a member of Temple B'nai Sholom, B'nai Sholom Sisterhood and Blessing Volunteers in Partnership.

Survivors include her two sons, Frederick (Susan) Kamber of Allentown, PA, and Brad (Randi) Kamber of Vonore, TN; her grandchildren, Derrick, Raphael, Jessica and Benjamin (Shikha); and her "Quincy Family": Mary and James Bockenfeld, Jamie and Jason Parrott, Katie and Joshua Ayres and Hudson, Olivia and Charlotte.

In addition to her husband, Nate, Sybil was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved grandson, Devin Kamber, her brother Murray Glickman and her sister, Bernice Harris.

Sybil will be buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Tucson, Arizona next to Nate and Devin.

"I had the privilege of meeting her and Nate years ago while he received his treatments. She was such a joy to be around, although our times of visiting then were limited. I appreciated her spirit and grace during his tough times, and was very grateful to run into her during the years after his passing. My heart goes out to you all"

"My deceased husband and Nate were in Dialysis treatments together. Sybil was there for me when my husband passed away and I visited with them at home when Nate got so very ill. They were such a loving couple and I cherish the times we comforted each other during those hard years. Rest in peace my special friend! Joyce Drebes "

"Our sweet Bubbe. You were always part of our family. It is so hard to think of life without you in it. I know you are with us always. We miss you so much. We love you more!! Love, Josh, Katie, Hudson, Olivia, and Charlotte "

Jamie Parrott wrote on Oct 30, 2022:

"Our family lost our ?Fairy Godmother? today and we are all heartbroken. Sybil Kamber, our Bubbie, was a source of unconditional love and support my entire life. She was the most warm and loving person I have ever known. She was never a critic and was always our biggest cheerleader. She was our comfort and safe place. She was strong-willed and funny. She kept the freezer stocked with homemade cookies, and always had a brisket for me to take home for when I was too busy to make dinner. She drank Diet Pepsi like she owned stock in the company! She adored babies, kids and dogs. She never missed a birthday, anniversary or holiday. I used to always put her on the top of the list when I needed job references, because, according to Bubbie, I walked on water. She taught my sister and I about the Jewish faith and has a picture of me (as a five year old girl) kneeling at the menorah and saying the ?Our Father.? We celebrated Passover Seder with her and Nate and at the end, we were given giant Easter baskets that Nate had bought for us. This happened when my dad was hospitalized in St. Louis (I was in 6th grade and Katie in 1st). Bubbie and Nate took care of Katie and I, taking us to school, making meals for us and letting us sleep between them when we were afraid. Anytime we were sick, she would show up at the door with her ?Jewish Penicillin? Motza Ball Soup. As biased as she clearly was, she was the person that I never doubted loved me whole heartedly? just for being me. Our family, and especially me, ask for patience and grace as we try to learn how to live in a world without her. Thank you, Bubbie, I am better because of your love."

"We both have precious memories of Sybil!! My earliest memory of her was related to my mom playing mahjongg with the ladies of the temple. She went out of her way to praise my daughter Bethany's honesty when Bethany counted the change she was going to give me from a purchase at the grocery store and realized the cashier had given her a dollar too much and quickly returned it. Brad and my Brad were great friends in Jr High and she loved that my Brad lived her cooking! We are so grateful that she and I enjoyed a short ukulele concert played by the two Brads recently It is wonderful to have that as our last memory if this sweet woman! I'm sure she's now dancing with her beloved Nate and Devin as well as Edith. Until we meet again....love to all of you from Peggy and Brad"
