Alberta Engels
June 30, 1928 - October 23, 2022

Alberta E. Engels, age 94, of Quincy, died on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at 10:38 p.m. in her daughter's home.

Alberta was born on June 30, 1928 in Quincy, Illinois, a daughter of Alfred and Mary Lenz Bockhold. On May 20, 1950 she married Joseph B. Engels at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Quincy. He preceded her in death on February 19, 1997.

Alberta and Joseph had been members of Church of St. Peter where Alberta also worked in the cafeteria. Alberta was a current member of Blessed Sacrament Parish.

Alberta loved spending time in the kitchen, where she cooked and canned. She took great pleasure in baking delicious confections that she would share with all of her family and friends. In her spare time, Alberta also enjoyed working in her garden.

Survivors include two daughters: Cheryl (Dennis) Wallin of Macomb, IL and Cathy Hilgenbrinck of Quicy; six grandchildren: Ann (Devin) Hildebrand of Camp Point, IL; Tony (April) Buss of Rock Springs, WY; Josh Wallin of Orangeville, IL; Valerie Wallin of Rockford, IL; and Nicole and Hunter Hilgenbrinck of Quincy; six great-grandchildren: Katie and Colin Hildebrand of Camp Point, IL; Reagan, Jack, and Charleigh Buss of Rock Spring, WY; and Delaney Wallin of Davis, IL; a sister, Florence Niemeyer of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Alberta was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Dorothy Schoenekase and Henrietta Smith; a son-in-law, Bill Buss; two sisters-in-law: Joyce (John) Dolinar and Norma (Don) Uhlenbrock; and three brothers-in-law: Bob Schoenekase, Harmon Smith, and Don Niemeyer.

Visitation: 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 28, 2022 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

Service: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 28, 2022 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Father Tom Meyer officiating.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Quincy, IL
