Lois Etta Rutt
December 20, 1932 - September 27, 2022

Lois Etta Rutt, 89, resident of Ithaca NY, dedicated former citizen of Detroit, MI, and born and bred in Wellman, IA passed away on September 27, 2022. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her children and 3 of her grandchildren.

Lois was predeceased by her parents, J. Waldo and Barbara; her sister Betty and her son, John. She is survived by her sister Dot; former husband Wil; her children Dan, Joe, and Susan; and her grandchildren Josh, Kate, Will, John, Matt, and Vinda.

Lois was educated as a nurse and home-trained as a creative cook and thrifty collector. She worked in a Haitian hospital in the early 1960s and held that experience close to her heart, visiting numerous times and collecting Haitian paintings for the rest of her life. She loved to travel, garden and arrange flowers, reading, viewing art, and having long, deep discussions with family and friends. She was a long-time member of Central Methodist Church in Detroit where she volunteered and was a founding member of the Swords Into Plowshares Art Gallery.

A private memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to The NOAH Project at noahprojectdetroit.org
