Dorothy grew up on a farm near Central City, NE, attending country school until it came time for high school in town. Dorothy earned a teaching certificate while enrolled at the nearby Nebraska Central College for two years and then taught for three years in the Fullerton and Clarks, Nebraska public schools, before completing her bachelors degree in social work at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
Dorothy was one of five children, raised in a Quaker home she described as "loving and stable with a foundation firm and unwavering." She and Charlie were married at the Central City Friends Meeting House in 1955 and began their married life in Omaha. Dorothy devoted her early years to raising Kim and Kent, and substitute teaching, before earning a Master's Degree in Teaching at Omaha University and beginning a full-time career with Omaha Public Schools, teaching 4th grade at Adams Elementary.
Dorothy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, beloved aunt and sister, and dear friend. Married fifty-three years, Dorothy and Charlie had many happy years of retirement together enjoying their condo in Steamboat Springs, CO, travel, friends and especially, time with their grandchildren. After Charlie's death in 2008, Dorothy crafted a new life filled with family, church activities, including a morning prayer group, book club and bible study, attending the symphony and playing bridge with friends.
Before a stroke in 2020, she was an active member of Presbyterian Church of the Master and the tenets of her Quaker upbringing remained her spiritual foundation throughout her life. Her family wishes to express their gratitude for the loving, attentive care Dorothy received from AseraCare Hospice, and while living the past four years at Aksarben Village Assisted Living.
Memorials are suggested to the Siena Francis House, Omaha, NE.

"I am so sad to learn of Dorothy's passing and extend my deepest condolences to Kim and Kent and family. I was fortunate to share students with Dorothy at Adams School. She was an exceptional and most caring teacher. Ron & I enjoyed the times we would get together with Charlie and Dorothy and play Bridge. We mourn her passing.
Sincerely, Carol Ellis
