Lloyd "Red" Hedlund, 92, of Emerson, IA, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Malvern with Pastor Carl Phillips officiating. Visitation will be prior to the funeral beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Malvern Cemetery. Loess Hills Funeral Home in Malvern is caring for Lloyd and his family.

OBITUARY
Lloyd Earl "Red" Hedlund, 92 of Red Oak, IA, passed away September 23, 2022 at Good Samaritan Society Home in Red Oak.
Lloyd, one of seven children of Cloe Nettie (Stogdill) and Ralph Oscar Hedlund, was born on July 22, 1930 in Malvern, Iowa. He grew up and attended school in Malvern through the 11th grade. Lloyd began working at the early age of 10, scooping sand and worked various jobs in the Malvern area for many years. He became employed with the CB & Q railroad, which later became Burlington Northern, working as a section labor for 43 years, until his retirement on June 30, 1992.
Lloyd and Alberta Grace Young were married in January of 1950. Their marriage was blessed with five children, Lloyd Earl Jr., Claude William, Paul Marion, Cheryl Lynn, and Darrell Duane. They divorced. Lloyd moved to live in Emerson, Iowa in 1956.

Lloyd and Leona Faye (Stogdill) Hanshaw were married on June 28, 1974 in Pacific Junction, Iowa. Lloyd's family grew to include Leona's children, Lonnie, Joe, Doug, Stacy, Debbie, Brian, and Michael, with her younger children moving to live with them in Emerson.
Lloyd and Leona had been married 35 years when Leona passed away in 2009. Lloyd continued to live in their Emerson home.
Lloyd was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Malvern at a young age. He was a member of the Railroad Union AFL-CIO. Lloyd enjoyed fishing and a little hunting, traveling to Arkansas and Wyoming, (story has it that one time he hitch-hiked back to Iowa from Arkansas), and he raised large vegetable gardens. Lloyd enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his beloved wife Leona, Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Claude Hedlund and Darrell Hedlund; son-in-law Kevin Trigg; brothers, Leonard Hedlund, and Larry Hedlund and wife Joann; and brother-in-law Geary Crom.
Lloyd is survived by his children, Lloyd Hedlund, Jr. and wife Rosie of Moorcroft, WY, Paul Hedlund of Emerson, and Cheryl Trigg of Moorcroft; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren; sister Vera Crom of Plattsmouth, NE; brothers, Lee Hedlund and wife Luella of Bellevue, NE, Lonnie Hedlund and wife Retha of Pennsylvania, and Lyle Hedlund and wife DeDe of Florida; several stepchildren; so many other relatives; and a host of friends.
