Jeffrey Arno Miller, 64 of rural Hastings, IA, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha.

Jeff was born on June 29, 1958 in Kansas City, MO. He was blessed to Arno Miller and Anna Mae (Benedict) Miller, of Hastings Iowa. Jeff enjoyed growing up on and living the farm life, learning about livestock and grain farming, this was the life he loved. Jeff graduated from the Nishna Valley High School in 1976, from there he moved to Texas with two classmates to work construction, but after one season he returned home and bought a farm to begin his farming career. The farm crisis of the 80's was tough, but he made it through.

Jeff married Christina Waller on April 7, 1984. Two sons were born to this union, Jason and Jordan. The couple later divorced in 1994.

On June 14, 1997, Jeff married Shirley Miller. He continued to farm and also drove truck, both locally and across the central United States, until 2001 when he wanted to stay local. Jeff was good and hard worker. He drove a roll off truck for Batten Sanitation for 14 years. For several years, he drove the activity school bus for the Malvern School District. Over the years, Jeff held several part-time jobs including; airport shuttle bus, SWITA, and at the Emerson elevator. In 2016, Jeff took a job working for the Mills and Montgomery Court Houses in the driver's license departments, doing driver's exams, until he resigned in 2022.

Jeff's goal in life was to make everyone laugh and smile. He enjoyed traveling with Shirley. His pride and joy were his two sons and their families, especially his grandsons.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Arno and Ann, granddaughter Gabriel Ranee Miller; in-laws, Benne and Gerda Miller, and brother-in-law, Marvin Miller.

Jeff was survived by his wife of 25 years, Shirley Miller of Hastings; sons, Jason (Ashlee) Miller of Nebraska City NE, and Jordan (Brittany Wolfe) Miller of Glenwood IA; grandsons, Ryan, Elijah, Owen, Braxton, and Lennox; aunts, Connie Benedict of Clearfield, IA and Carol Benedict of Albert City, IA; many cousins; other relatives; and a host of friends.

"In high school Jeff was known as a rebel rouser! One thing I remember is when he drove his car down the driveway of Nishna Valley school and jumped the ditch! He could always make you laugh! I'm sure he's entertaining his friends and family in heaven with some wild stories. RIP Jeff."

"In high school Jeff was a bit of a rebel rouser. I remember the time he drove his car down the driveway of Nishna Valley to do his "Evil Kamillhole" act! He was always up to something!! He was such a jokester and could make anyone laugh. He will truly be missed! I'm sure he's entertaining his family and friends in heaven. RIP Jeff. "

"My condolences to Shirley, Jason and Jordan. I?m grateful to say, Jeff was my friend. I will always remember his smile and laugh. One of my first memories of Jeff was back in the late 60?s. We were at a farm equipment store in Glenwood. While our fathers were inside, Jeff was trying to get one of the riding lawn mowers started so we could go for ride. He always did love to drive. Lucky for us, he couldn?t get it started. Another memory I have of Jeff is over 41 years ago on my wedding day. Jeff pulled up in front of the church (in a smaller town than Emerson, full of Amish and Mennonite families), in Arno and Ann?s huge mobile home. It was loaded with many of our friends from home; and let?s just say, they were well supplied for the 200-mile trip! My wife?s family still laughs about that to this day. Jeff always could make me smile and laugh. And his memory will continue to do so. Rick Mabary "

"He was a great friend in a time of need to Terry Lister who had cancer. Jeff made every effort to get Terry to his Omaha appointments. He will be missed by many but I'm really sure Terry and Jeff are telling stories. Prayers to the family!!! "

"Jeff was my friend no matter what...whether laughing at each other or at ourselves. Heck, neither one of us could hear but we sure could communicate. I witnesses Jeff pout (then laugh) over not catching fish when others were catching fish sitting right next to him or getting a grief about his deck patio not being finished in a timely manner. He often asked me if i would ticket a person for various infractions as a police officer and then start on me about why not regardless of my answer. Then there was my driving. He love to tell me if I crossed a line, rolled through a stop sign or going over the speed limit, so picky, so I just had to break the rules on purpose when he rode with me just to be entertained by him. Jeff sure could entertain that is a fact. I could go on and on about Jeff in what I consider too short of time of getting to know him. I know others have known Jeff a lot longer than I but I know for a fact he was and is my friend! I miss you Jeff, looking forward to seeing you in God's kingdom whenever my time comes."
