Jana Denise Finley was born on April 9, 1963, in Omaha, NE as the third child to Gerald "Gene" Rowell and Helen "Ilene" Rowell. Jana lived in Omaha with her sister Jeanne and brothers Lin and Gregg.

Jana graduated from Omaha Northwest High School in 1982 where she met John Finley. Jana and John married in September 1984 and moved to Arizona shortly after with some friends and family. After a couple years they moved back to Omaha with the goal of starting a family.

Jana and John welcomed their first child, Mallory, in August 1990. Jana was a stay-at-home mom and opened an at-home daycare for her and the neighboring children. Their second child, Shelby, was born in December 1992 and their youngest, Brendan, in September 1995. Jana remained a stay-at-home mom during her children's adolescent years and began working for Omaha Public Schools in 2001 until she retired as a Nutrition Specialist in July 2022.

Jana was dedicated to her family, friends, and co-workers. Her caring and selfless personality is reflected through her network of lifetime friends. She will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her father, many family and friends, and knowing this gives us great comfort.

"To Jana Children (Mallory, Shelby, and Brendon), her Husband (John), her beloved Mother (Aunt Ilene), Brothers (Lin, Gregg) and Sister (Jeanne), In times like this, it is hard to find the words that bring comfort and joy. When someone so young passes it is easy to say "she lived a good life." In reality, she lived a life of quality rather than quantity. In writing this tonight, it reminds me of some of our late-night conversations about the similar life situations we found ourselves in of late. Her, discussing her husband John's recent move to hospice. Me, discussing my husband's current situation and life's heavy decisions coming my way. It seemed our lives were running parallel. A moment in time in which these two cousins found comfort in each other late each night once we had completed our day's duties. (Being caregivers to our husbands.) Regardless of our current situations, we still found time to laugh together. Mostly reminiscing about the Rowell family gatherings. We realize goodbyes hurt the most when the story is not finished. No matter how much we plan and prepare, life is unpredictable. We can always trust God's plan because we can always trust God's character. Only when we accept that one day, we too, will die can we let go and make the best out of life. Despite Jana's circumstances, she lived her best life and comforted and nurtured those around her. Her instant family, mother, brothers and sister were truly the love of her life! L'amour de ma vie We are sending prayers and thinking of the entire family during this very difficult time. Please know we are right here in Omaha and, stand ready to assist any of you in the days and weeks ahead. May God Bless You All, Mr. and Mrs. David (Sharon Rowell) Ripley and Family (Kate, Ava, Ben, Jason and Connor) Omaha, NE 68135 "
