Duane Zierke
May 17, 1926 - July 31, 2022

Duane L. Zierke, 96, of Fort Dodge passed away Sunday, July 31 2022 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites provided by the United States Army Honor Guard and the VFW Post 1856. A visitation will be 11:00 AM until the start of the service at the church. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family.

Duane is survived by his daughters Pat Zierke of Nevada, Janan Winn of Iowa City, Lynne (Dan) Haub of West Branch, Carol (Brent) Tonne of Granada, MN; sons Paul (Lorna) Zierke of Spirit Lake, David (Terry) Zierke of Hawarden; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Conrad Trusty; 3 nieces and 1 nephew.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years June (Carlson) Zierke; his parents John and Rose (Gleason) Zierke; son-in-law Alan Winn and daughter-in-law Mary (Clausen) Zierke: sister-in-law Darlene Trusty.

Duane Lowell Zierke was born May 17, 1926 in Fort Dodge. He attended Fort Dodge schools and graduated in 1944. Prior to graduation he enlisted in the National Guard. After graduation, he was active military in the Army Air Corps and deployed to Germany until his honorable discharge in 1946. On April 17, 1949 he was united in marriage to June Carlson and the couple established their home in Fort Dodge. Duane worked for Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electrical Company and retired in 1994. He was an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and put in over 1,000 hours of volunteer work at Trinity Regional Medical Center. He installed Lifelines and kept the church property mowed and trimmed well into his 90"s. His passions included airplanes and flying, woodworking, the church and his family.

Memorials may be left to family discretion.
