Hartmuth "Hardy" Schaefer
August 5, 1947 - July 29, 2022

Hartmuth "Hardy" Schaefer, 74, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away at his home on Friday, July 29, 2022, surrounded by family.

A gathering of family and friends celebrating Hardy's life will be held from 4 to 6 P.M., Friday, August 5, 2022, in "The Bistro " at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa with a word of prayer at 5 P.M. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Hartmuth E. Schaefer was born on August 5, 1947, in Gladenbach, Germany, to Berthold and Ann (Pliess) Schaefer. He married Patricia (Pat) Ryan on August 29, 1970, in Chicago, IL. To this union 3 children, Ron, Terry and Cyndi.

Hardy worked and retired from ITW as a tool and die maker. Hardy lived in Chicago and Palantine, IL for many years until moving to Maquoketa. He loved traveling and collecting coins. He and Pat were huge Jimmy Buffet fans. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, IA.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Ron (Chris) Schaefer of Maquoketa, IA, Terry Schaefer and Cyndi (Mike) Czajka; 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Udo Schaefer. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Patricia Schaefer in 2014.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Hartmuth E. "Hardy" Schaefer memorial fund has been established.
