In loving memory of

Dennis Craig Hansen
July 31, 1950 - July 14, 2022

Dennis "Horner" Craig Hansen was born on July 31, 1950, the son of Ralph Hansen and Elizabeth (Brannan) Hansen in Carroll, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manilla. Dennis attended Manilla Community Schools and graduated with the Class of 1968. While in school he was an active member of the football, basketball, and baseball teams. Following his education, he enrolled in barber school in Des Moines for a short time before returning to Manilla.

Denny married Sally Ann Van Scoy on July 7, 1973. The couple made their home in Manilla. Sally passed away October 31, 1976, due to injuries sustained in a car accident. Denny was united in marriage with Janette Huelman on July 12, 1980, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manilla, Iowa and they recently celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary. Into this union, they welcomed one daughter, Kasey. The family made their home in Manilla. For 40 years, Denny was employed at Farmland/Smithfield Foods. He especially enjoyed his role in the communications committees with Farmland and meeting people from different Farmland plants from across the states.

In his spare time, Denny enjoyed bowling, golfing, shooting the BS at Primetimes, sports of all kinds, murder mysteries, and the Hallmark Channel. For several years, Dennis announced the high school football games. He was an avid fan of the Cardinals and Cyclones. He cherished time with his family, especially supporting his daughter in sports and school events, watching cartoons with the grandkids, and golf cart rides with Kyler and Kazic. After he got into his smartphone, Dennis loved getting pictures of his grandchildren.

Denny passed away suddenly at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa on Thursday, July 14, 2022, due to a medical event.

Denny was preceded in death by his father Ralph Hansen, his mother Elizabeth Grage and her husband Donald (Whitey) Grage, his wife Sally Hansen, brother-in-law Jerry Mills, Janette's parents Norbert & Lola Huelman, numerous aunts and uncles, and his best furry friend, Lucky.

He is survived by wife Janette Hansen of Manilla; daughter Kasey (Steve) Nolan of Fremont, Nebraska; three grandchildren: Averie, Axton and Amiyah Nolan; sister Denise Mills of Manilla; and many other relatives and friends.

"Thank you, Randy, for your loving summary of who Denny was. I will always remember his incredible warmth, passion for life and sports, and his willingness to do anything for family. He and Jeanette were there for us when Uncle Wayne passed away in late 2020. The world was a better place because of Denny. "

Randy Hansen wrote on Jul 16, 2022:

"Denny is my cousin, only one year older than me. We grew up only blocks apart and shared the same great family, headed up always by Grandma Elsie. His parents, Aunt Betty and Uncle Ralph were very dear to me. Me and Denny shared time and too many experiences together to even begin to remember. We played with all the other kids in Manilla from morning till night all summer long, riding our bikes all over town, playing ball at the ?ditch league?, pickup games, football, basketball and others, based on whatever season it was. We both had a paper route and I can remember all those very early mornings at the depot picking up our papers and heading out on our bikes to deliver them. As an adult, Denny, fondly known by his friends as ?Horner? had tons of friends from all walks of life, his workplace at Farmland, his years of following the local athletic events, years on the City Council. He spent many years as the ?voice of the ?Hawks?(IKM-MANILLA) and ?Wolves? (IKM-MANNING) football teams as the play by play announcer at the games. He rarely went anywhere that he didn?t run into somebody he knew. He had a memory that always amazed me. You didn?t want play trivia about sports, music or movies with him because you would lose! He was always there for me, not as his cousin but more like a brother. I did feel like a brother to him. I love Horner and will miss him very much. My condolences go out to Jeanette, his daughter Casey and her family, his sister Denise and the rest of his family and friends. Randy Hansen"
