Basil B. Bates Sr.
Canton - Basil B. Bates Sr., 85, of Canton, passed away at 5 pm on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at The Loft. He was born on March 31, 1937 in Marietta to Basil E. and Minnie (Montanye) Bates. Basil married Elizabeth Correllus on May 4, 1957 in East Falmouth, MA. She survives along with seven children; Basil B. Bates Jr. Patrick L. Bates and Shawn (Jennifer) Bates all of Canton, Teresa (Joseph) Stephens of Cantonment, FL, Michael (Diana) Bates of O'Fallon, MO, Kevin (Danielle) Bates of Duluth, GA and Charles (Michelanne) Bates of Cheyenne, WY, step-brother Charlie Bill (Melodee) Rudolph of Lewistown, half -sister Sharlee Porter Bates of Canton, sister-in-law Lynda Bates of Canton, thirty-two grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Robert Bates and Phillip Bates.
Basil retired from the US Air Force in 1975 and later worked and retired from Xerox after 19 years. He was in the model "A" car club "Forever 4". He also was a Boy Scout leader in the Explorers and loved hunting and fishing.
Services will be 2 pm Monday, July 18, 2022 at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory where visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Sunday, July 17, 2022. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton. Memorials can be made to either Wounded Warriors Project or the Alzheimer's Association.
