"Mr. Edwards was my math teacher in 1959 and our children\'s principle through grade school at Mitchellville elementary. He was in my dad?s Army reserve 103 Ordinance at Fort Des Moines. His brother Don I have known since Altoona school and then at John Deere Des Moines Works. Known of Margo when she went to Bondurant High School. The family are Christians and loving the Lord. Praying for Mr. Edward?s family and loved ones. With the Lord?s love and prayers. ??????"

David McCracken Edwards, age 90 of Mitchellville, IA. passed away in his home surrounded by family on July 9 after contracting the COVID-SARS virus.
The son of David and Doris (McCracken) Edwards, Dave was born on September 18,1931. He graduated from Colfax High School in 1949 then served in the U.S. Army in Korea. Upon returning home he married Margo Lockhart (Colfax, IA) and graduated from Drake University with a degree in Education. He was a teacher, coach, and administrator in both the Colfax and Southeast Polk School Districts for many years, the last 34 years serving as principal of Mitchellville Elementary School. Dave had a passion for serving others as evidenced by the many programs he offered the community, volunteering in the Polk County Jail Ministries and ICIW Women's Prison Bible Study.
He was a member of the American Legion, Lions Club, Berean Assembly of God, and Bethany Life Assembly of God.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 59 years, Margo, three children: Tammy Edwards, Tracey (Jay) Murphy, Danielle Edwards; Four grandchildren Alisha (Dan) Stoutenberg, Kirsty (Mike) Lauters, Quinton (Raelynn) Murphy, Jenna (Chase) Tennant: and 9 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings: brother, Dewey (Pat) Edwards of Colfax; sister, Docela (Kanu) Chatterjee of Iowa City; brother, Don (Darla) Edwards of Newton, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding him in death are: parents, David and Doris Edwards; stillborn sister Dawn Edwards; sister Dreda McGill; brother Dale Edwards; nephew Sean McGill.
No visitation or funeral services are being held at this time .Cards to the family are welcome, memorial gifts sent to the family (511 Center Avenue N. Mitchellville, IA 50169) will be used toward a memorial bench in Dave's honor in Mitchellville.
