Ruth Ann Loretta (Mundy) Sterling, 65, went to her heavenly home July 6, 2022. She was born in Jasper, Indiana, on July 27, 1956, to Orville P. and Bernadette M. (Humbert) Mundy. On December 12, 1992, Ruth married the love of her life, Elisha William Sterling and he survives. During their nearly thirty years of marriage, Ruth and Elisha created a loving home for their son and daughter and eagerly welcomed the addition of their grandchildren.
Ruth held two bachelor's degrees - accounting and marketing - from St. Mary of the Woods. An astute entrepreneur in business, her advice and wisdom were often sought by others as she was a natural problem solver with an uncanny ability to understand the complexities of business. Ruth was involved in several successful enterprises. She was co-owner of Sterling and Company, PC, with her husband, Elisha. Together, they have served their community for past thirty-two years. With her daughter, Elizabeth, she co-owned Sterling Accounting and Tax Service, Inc, a woman-owned business. Ruth and her sister, Mary, co-owned Professional Images. She was also co-owner of Sterling Limousines and Comfort Luxury Limousines. For many years, prior to her business ownerships, she was the Fiscal Officer for Vincennes University, Jasper Campus.
Ruth was an avid gardener and painter who loved music and dancing. But most of all, Ruth was known to be a wonderful "country-style" cook whose kitchen was the heart and soul of her household. Her love of family and friends along with her unconditional support and positive outlook always shone through. Everyone in her presence knew they were loved and cherished. Ruth was a member of the Arbor Day Foundation and the Calvary Missionary Church.
Those who now mourn Ruth's passing include: her husband, Elisha Sterling; son, Joshua (Bethany) Kempf, and daughter, Elizabeth (Kia'i) Barretto, all of Washington. Ruth was blessed with five grandchildren: Jalen Kempf; Lillian Kempf; Madelyn Kempf; Colton Kempf; and Keola Barretto.
Coming from a large family, Ruth leaves several siblings: Rebecca Taylor of Evansville; Mary (Bill Robinson) Mundy of Leopold; Larry (Kathy) Mundy, Kevin Mundy, and Patrick (Pamela Englert) Mundy, all of Ferdinand; Steve Mundy and Mark (Linda) Mundy of Birdseye; Joe (Tammy) Mundy, Tom (Jodi) Mundy, and Elaine Duncan, all of Huntingburg; Gary (Jayne Hurst) Mundy and Karen (Mark) Beckman, all of St. Anthony. Additionally, there are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Ruth knew the sorrow that comes from losing loved ones during her lifetime with the passing of her parents, Orville and Bernadette Mundy, and her youngest brother, Chris Mundy.
