Marilyn M. Dietz, 92, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, June 18, 2022, at Maquoketa Care Center.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:30 A.M., Thursday, June 23, 2022, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 10 to 11:30 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa.
Marilyn Marie Miller was born on September 5, 1929 in Iron Hill, Iowa, to Elmer and Grace (Sagers) Miller. She was a 1947 graduate of Maquoketa High School and then received her teaching certificate from the University of Dubuque. She married Donald P. Dietz on December 27, 1948 in Dubuque, Iowa.
Marilyn first taught country school at East Iron Hill from 1947 to 1948. She then farmed with her husband from 1949 to 1962 in the Lost Nation area, and from 1969 to 2009 they farmed in the Maquoketa area.
Marilyn enjoyed quilting, baking, exercising with friends at the JCRHC, playing cards, and creating holiday celebrations for family. She had served as a 4-H leader of the Buckhorn Busy Bodies Club and on the Jackson County Extension Youth Committee. She had also been a member of the United Church of Christ in Maquoketa where she had taught Sunday School. Additionally, she was a member of the South Fork Township Farm Bureau Forum and the Buckhorn Community Club.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Donald Dietz of Maquoketa, IA; children, Kimberly (Larry) Deppe of LaMotte, IA, Barbara (William "Bill") Bowman of Maquoketa, IA, and Richard "Dick" (Paula) Dietz of Ankeny, IA; 8 grandsons, Robert Dietz, Bryan Dietz, Matthew Deppe, Lucas Deppe, Ara "A.J." Bowman, Adam Bowman, Samuel Dietz, and Willem Dietz; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother Charles David (Janet) Miller of Maquoketa, IA; and a sister Laurel (Milo) Baker Jr. of Maquoketa, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Dennis, and brothers Calvin and Donald.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Marilyn M. Dietz memorial fund has been established.

"Marilyn was a delight to know! Darrel and I met her at the cardiac rehab exercise room at the old hospital. She was a regular as were most of us seniors who came to stay fit and for the social Contact. Marilyn had very sweet personality and we were thankful we had the chance to get to know her!
