October 14, 1975 - June 13, 2022

Eric C. "Pete" Petersen, 46, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022, in Rock Island, Illinois.

A private family visitation will be held at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. His body will be cremated following the visitation. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Eric Christian Petersen was born on October 14, 1975 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Bruce E. and Patricia L. (Bock) Petersen. He was a 1994 graduate of Maquoketa Community High School and then attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He married Erin Heinzel on September 4, 2004 at the Heinzel Family Farm in rural Maquoketa. They have 2 children together, Ava and Caleb.

While in high school Eric played center on the football team and was employed at Pizza Hut. He later worked as a cook at the Decker Hotel and Restaurant in Maquoketa and Me & Billy in Davenport. He was a man of many talents but much of his working life was spent as a heavy equipment operator. Most recently, he worked for Harris Golf Cars in Dubuque, Iowa where he kept the family supplied with used golf balls and tees and was a valued employee.

Eric was a member of First Lutheran Church of Maquoketa and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Club also in Maquoketa. He loved fishing, being in nature, and always kept an eye out for cool rocks to collect and share with his kids. He loved to cook and won the family Lasagna Contest, beating out his mom. He also loved all animals, but his cat Harvey and his "cat-dog" Monti were his favorites.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Ava and Caleb Petersen of Maquoketa; their mother Erin Petersen; his mother, Pat (Ron) Keitel of Maquoketa; his father Bruce (Lori) Petersen of Lost Nation; sisters, Amy Petersen of Dubuque, and Sarah (Mike) Jackson of Cedar Rapids; 4 nieces and 2 nephews; and numerous half and step-siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Eric's kind heart won him many life-long friends that he kept in touch with on a regular basis. He was preceded in death his grandparents Harold and Lois Bock, Elmer and Evelyn Petersen and Charlie and Alice Lasack.
