"I just recently met Joyce while visiting my husband at Sunset Home. She was a very nice lady and I miss talking with her."
Joyce A. Clelland, age 79, of Quincy, died at 4:45am on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Sunset Home.
Joyce was born on October 30, 1942 in Quincy, a daughter of Harold and Marie Schultz DeVore. On September 1, 2007, she married Robert E "Bob" Clelland, in the Chaddock Chapel, Quincy. She was previously married for 26 years to Gilbert L "Gil" Hoover.
Joyce was a graduate of Quincy High School and Gem City Business College. She had many careers throughout her life beginning at Moorman's Manufacturing, as an owner of Flip Flop & Dance Shop and later at AG Edwards but her favorite role was mother to her children and all of their friends.
Joyce never knew a stranger and on most occasions someone was telling her their life story or asking for advice. She loved people and connecting with them. She spent her retired days putting that skill set to use on social media and in her early days, she advocated for the rights of the disabled with the local Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans. She also enjoyed singing, drawing and playing the piano.
Survivors include her daughter Holly Hoover Coates; her grandchildren Reigne and Cash Coates all of New Braunfels, Texas and her sister Judith DeVore of Quincy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son Randal L Hoover and his father Gilbert L Hoover.
