January 19, 1978 - May 19, 2022

Scottsdale - Jeffrey Howard Appel, 44, of Heber City UT passed away peacefully on May 19, 2022, in the loving company of his family at Mayo Clinic. He had suffered a long history of Wilson's disease and ultimately succumbed to liver disease.

Jeff was born January 19, 1978, in Macomb IL, the son of Gregg Appel and Jeanne Logan Appel. He was preceded in death by grandparents Leon Appel, Veva Appel, Howard Logan, Marie Logan, and his Aunt Gloria Appel Fry. He is survived by his brother Benjamin Appel (Rachel) of Dunlap IL, brother Ryan Appel (Graziela) of Kamas UT, Mother Jeanne Logan Appel of Heber UT, Father Gregg Appel and Stepmother Charlotte Mariaux Appel of Scottsdale AZ, as well as niece Isabella and nephews Mason and Leonardo Appel.

Jeff was a graduate of Chillicothe IVC High School and Augustana University in Rock Island IL, where he excelled at track, football, and hockey. Jeff's passion for the great outdoors began with skiing while a 5-year-old living in Geneva, Switzerland, and followed him throughout his life. After University, he followed that passion to work at ski resorts in Vermont and then for many years in Park City UT, as Cash Operations Manager of the Canyons Resort. He later studied to work as Respiratory Therapist in Utah and Florida. Jeff thrived on the outdoor activities available in Utah and at the family lake home in Minnesota. He became a proficient sailor, and loved everything outdoors including camping, golfing, hiking, and fishing. His greatest pride was spending time with his niece and nephews.

A thoughtful and reflective soul, Jeff was slow to anger and spent many peaceful hours outdoors with his dogs and friends. He loved games and was awesome at Scrabble. He was loved by all.

A celebration of Jeff's life will be held in coming weeks in Utah. Memorials can be made to the Wilson's Disease Association.
