Kathleen A. Laird

Kathleen Ann "Kathy" Laird, age 76, of Quincy, died on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 2:24 am in her home.

Kathy was born on July 30, 1945 the daughter of Herbert and Norma Heitkamp Rakers. She married Sonny Laird on August 1, 1964 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Quincy. He survives.

Kathy was a graduate of Notre Dame High School. She had a 27 year career as a bus driver for the Quincy Schools. She was a member of the Church of St. Peter.

Kathy loved playing tennis and always enjoyed camping with her family. She was an excellent card player and loved to play card games for hours, win or lose.

Above all else, Kathy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who dearly loved her family. Throughout her life she always made time to attend all of her children and later her grandchildren's activities and events. Kathy enjoyed being a snowbird and spending the winter months in Florida with Sonny.

Survivors in addition to her husband of 57 years, Sonny, include three children, Sonny (Dawn) Laird, Jr. of Murrieta, CA, Julie (Brad) Cassens of Loraine, IL, and Jane (Ken) Clark of Auburn, IL; seven grandchildren, Sonny (Monica) Laird III, Shelby (Jacob) Tomko, Devin (Torie) Cassens, Jaden Cassens, Delaney (Dylan Lyles) Cassens, Hunter (Michelle) Clark, and Bailey Clark; four great-granchildren, Andres, Zoey and Dean Laird, and Beau Cassens; three brothers, George (Gina) Rakers, Tom (Mary Lou) Rakers, Mike (Kathy) Rakers; a brother-in-law, Mark (Carol) Laird; a sister-in-law, Sunny Laird; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Rosemary Pillars, and a brother Charles Rakers.

Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

Services: 9:30 am prayers on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of St. Peter.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois
