In loving memory of

Benny Hernandez
December 5, 1944 - May 6, 2022

Benny Hernandez went to be with the lord on May 6, 2022. He was the husband of Cynthia Hernandez (Nelson.) They shared 25 years of marriage together. Benny was born in Chicago, IL on December 5, 1944. He was the son of Richard C. Hernandez and Nicolasa Hernandez (Ponce). Benny was one of nine children. He had three brothers and five sisters. Their large family moved to Rockford, IL in 1954. Benny and his siblings attended school there and made many great friends over the years. After high school he attended trade school to become a painter.

In 1972, Benny and Cindy moved with their two young daughters to Phoenix, Arizona. Benny absolutely loved Arizona and all that it had to offer. He would later go on to work for Arizona State University in their Housing Department and eventually started his own painting business. Benny loved fishing, camping, and picnicking in the park. Over the years, he took his family on many memorable trips in their camper. He was an avid lover of golf. He loved going to the driving range after dinner and playing golf with friends. When he became too weak to play anymore, he continued to be involved with the game he loved by regularly watching the golf channel. Above all Benny was a man who loved his family. He went back to Illinois regularly to visit with his parents and siblings. He loved being with his kids and grandkids for special occasions or just to hang out with them.

Benny is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Cindy, his brother Christino and his brother Jesse. He is survived by his daughters Julie (Daniel) and Melisa (Bryan), his son Mark as well as his sisters Rosa, Yolanda, Mary, Gloria, Olga, brother Richard and grandchildren Mark, Cameron, Andres, Annicia, Isabella, and Noah. Benny will be greatly missed by all, but he will always be in the hearts of those who had the joy and privilege of knowing him.
