Roger W. Fineran
January 17, 1941 - May 5, 2022

Roger William Fineran was born January 17, 1941 at home in rural Denison, Iowa, the son of William and Mary (Miller) Fineran. He was baptized on February 2, 1941 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison and later confirmed his faith at St. Martin Catholic Church in Odebolt. Roger's first time steering a tractor was at two years old, when he was five, he pulled his dad's car out of the mud and when he was seven, he was taking care of the horses and doing field work with tractors. By the time he was 15, he stacked 17 hay stacks in one haying season.

He graduated from Odebolt Arthur High School with the Class of 1960. Following graduation, he started farming for a living. In 1965, he started working for I.B.P and then in 1966, he became employed at Farmland Foods where he worked for 22 and half years. Starting in 1989, he worked 17 years at Midwest Industries in Ida Grove. During those times, he continued to farm, raise livestock and feeder pigs. He was also a Reserve Police Officer for one year and was on the Odebolt Ambulance for six years.

On September 11, 1961, Roger was united in marriage to Geraldine Adams at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Schaller, Iowa. To this union, they were blessed with eight children: Brian, Larry, Lori, Chris, Denise, Michele, Angie, and Jennifer.

Roger was a catechism teacher, lay minister, lector, and usher at St. Martin Catholic Church in Odebolt. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove. He had a strong Faith in his Lord who's love for the church always came first, then Gerry and then his family. Roger attended Ragbrai for three years and took much pride in his yard and gardening. He was an avid Hawkeye, Packers, and New York Yankee fan.

Roger passed away unexpectedly, surround by his family, on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, attaining the age of eighty-one years, three months, and eighteen days. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Hagerty; sister, Sharon (Dick) Kepford, brother-in-law, John Teiber; parents-in-law, Gerald and Ruth Adams; sisters-in-law, Mary (Gary) Banks and Rosalie (Ron) Rodewald.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Gerry Fineran of Ida Grove; children: Brian, Larry, Chris, Denise (Don) Coleman, Michele (Jim) Rumon, Angie (Todd) Bengford, and Jennifer (Chris) Downes; son-in-law, Dan Hagerty; 20 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren with one more joining the family in August; brother, David Fineran and his wife Ellen; sisters: Sister Shirley Fineran and Therese Teiber; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. also at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Odebolt Cemetery in Odebolt.
