Elaine Joyce Luthy
June 19, 1926 - May 3, 2022

Elaine Joyce Luthy, 95, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Suite Living Senior Living in Marion. Elaine was born on June 19, 1926, to the late John and Lydia Millhisler. She graduated from Holt High School in Michigan, and then went on to Taylor University where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. She taught music at Mississinewa Schools for 29 years and she attended Upland Community Church. She was a talented musician and loved to play the piano and organ. On June 12, 1949, she married Frederick Luthy, and he preceded her in death on August 23, 1999. Elaine was a loving, giving, and caring person, and was a strong prayer warrior. She was loved so immensely by her family that she could never have imagined how much she will be missed. She was a wonderful mother and nana, and her passing will leave a void that cannot be filled.
Elaine is survived by her children, Darla (Steven) McPhail and Craig (Paula) Luthy, both of Upland; grandchildren, Matthew (Kelly) McPhail, Kendra (John) Chun, Tara (Andy) Swanson, Chad (Erin) Luthy, and Chelsee (Ryan) Jones; and great-grandchildren, Olivia and Andrew McPhail, Kaley and Kennedy Chun, Myelle, Adalynn, Bria, and Jacob Swanson, Jadyn, Malakai, and Zander Luthy, and Kaiden, Kenzie, and Kooper Jones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lydia; husband, Fred; brother, Virgil Millhisler; and sister, Jo McNamara.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Suite Living Senior Living and Stillwater Hospice for the amazing care they gave to Elaine. They cannot express enough how grateful they are for the incredible staff and how they all treated Elaine as if she was their own family.
Arrangements for Elaine have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 259 North Main Street, Upland. A graveside service will be held with family in attendance. Contributions may be made to the Frederick and Elaine Luthy Scholarship Fund at Taylor University. "Darla, Craig, and extended family, I loved your mom so much and my many visits with her even when she was still living in the family house on Wright. It was such a joy to take her to Suite Living with me where she assisted me by playing the piano for my monthly Sunday church for the residents. The last time I saw her, we went out to the piano there. It was her request for me to sing while she played. Elaine, I loved you so very much. How I will miss our sweet times! ???"

"Mrs. Luthy is one of those teachers you don't easily forget. She taught music at East Elementary School and inspired myself and probably many others to include music in their lives. I learned piano as a young child as a result and am grateful for her influence and for the role music has played in my life. More importantly, she exemplified a godly life. I celebrate her life with you and will be praying for you all."
