Orland German, 80, of Malvern, IA, passed away at his home on Saturday, April 30, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Malvern. Visitation will be hedl one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will be at 2:00 p.m. in the Omaha National Cemetery. Loess Hills Funeral Home in Malvern is caring for Orland and his family.

OBITUARY
Orland Owen German, 80 of Malvern, IA, passed away at his home on Saturday, April 30, 2022.

Orland was born on July 1, 1941 in Iowa City, IA, the son of Roy Eldon and Elma (Wright) Shipman. He graduated from high school in Chariton, IA in 1960. Orland attended college where he received his AA degree in maintenance. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1961 during the Vietnam War, and was stationed in England for over 7 years as a vehicle operations supervisor, before returning stateside. Orland was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, NE until his retirement in 1981, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Among the ribbons and medals he received throughout his career were an Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Longevity Service ribbon with 4 oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Service Stars, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 2 oak leaf clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit with Valor, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 5 oak leaf clusters.

Orland and Eileen Sutton were united in marriage on November 30, 1962 in England. They were blessed with five children, Kathy, Elden, Tammy, Eithne, and Schula. They made their home in Pacific Junction, IA for 31 years until the devastating flooding of the Missouri River in 2019, when they moved to live in Malvern.

Orland enjoyed bowling, watching TV and movies, and listening to country western music. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and friends. He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Orland was preceded in death by his parents; brother Vester Henry German; and ten half siblings.

Orland is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Eileen German of Malvern; children, Kathy and Quintin Pierson of Malvern, Elden German of Malvern, Tammy and Scott Rose of Honey Creek, IA, Eithne Fisher of Malvern, and Schula German of Glenwood, IA; 9 grandchildren, Dana, Charles, Andrew, Daniel, Michael, Calan, Julian, Keaton, and Canyon; 10 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and special friends
