Zona Gail Brighton
February 3, 1926 - April 10, 2022
Zona Gail Brighton passed away on April 10, 2022, at the age of 96. She was born on February 3, 1926, to Albert and Caroline Fickeisen, who came to Phoenix from Marietta, Ohio. Since she was the first of the four children to be born in Arizona, her parents named her Zona.
While she was working at Valley National Bank, she met and married her husband, Robert Brighton. They had 29 wonderful years together until his death in 1977. Bob and Zona adopted their son David in March of 1954 when he was one year, five days old.
Zona was a long-time member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, here she enjoyed serving on the Alter Guild. She loved gardening and cooking Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter dinners at her home. She was the perfect hostess! She was an avid bird watcher, joining the Audubon Society and spotting & recording 573 different species of birds over the years. Zona enjoyed spending time with family and friends in Arizona and traveling to Michigan to visit Bob's family.
Zona is survived by three nieces, seven nephews, one sister-in-law, and several great nieces and nephews. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, and sense of humor will be missed by all.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022, at 11:00 am at Beatitudes Campus Life Center, 1610 W. Glendale Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85021.
