THOMAS J. SHIMON
January 8, 1942 - April 17, 2022

Thomas J. Shimon, 80, of Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Marquette, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 17, 2022 at Pam Health Specialty Hospital in Sarasota following a long illness.

Tom was born on January 8, 1942 in Marquette; one of four children born to the late Leonard and Kathryn (Boyd) Shimon. He was a 1960 graduate of Graveraet High School. Following high school, Tom enlisted in the Army National Guard, retiring from the Guard in 1993.

Tom was employed at numerous auto body repair garages in Marquette County for several decades.

Tom played hockey his entire life. He also enjoyed stock car racing, hunting, and rifle shooting. He made the Governor's "20 List" for sharp shooting. Spending time at camp at the Dead River Basin with friends was always something he looked forward to along with family get-togethers.

Tom is survived by three children, Kathy Noble, Kelly (Paul) Laurich, and Scott Shimon, all of Marquette; one step-daughter, Dana (Mark) Bentley of Washington; five grandchildren, Missy (Randy) Lehtomaki, Molly (Chase) Larmour, Morgan Laurich, Macie (Justyn) Huskey, Mindy Shimon; two step-grandchildren, Lane and Erin Bentley; one great granddaughter, Myra Lehtomaki; two brothers, Jerry Shimon of Flint, MI and Michael (Pat) Shimon of Marquette; also several nieces and nephews and his former wife, Mary Lou Shimon. Preceding him in death besides his parents was his wife, Bonnie Shimon and a sister, Mary Malloy.

The Shimon family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, May 4 at Canale-Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services from 10:30 a.m. until 12 noon where a funeral service will be held in the funeral home at noon with the Rev. Glenn Theoret officiating. A luncheon will take place immediately following the service in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Scott Shimon, Paul Laurich, Randy Lehtomaki, Chase Larmour, Justyn Huskey, Zach Albright, and Steve Gustafson.
