Kevin B. "Calhoun" Elsner, 64, of Sugar Creek, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday morning, April 21, 2022, at home.

A memorial gathering of family and friends celebrating Kevin's life will be held from 3 to 5 P.M. on Monday, April 25, 2022 at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Cremation rites have been accorded and a private burial will be held.

Kevin Bernard Elsner was born on February 18, 1958 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Raymond and Vera (Schlarmann) Elsner. He grew up in the Sugar Creek area, and at age 20 began working for Collis Company in Clinton. He worked there for 44 years until present and was planning to retire in 10 months. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Epping on June 18, 1993 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Kevin aka "Calhoun" loved all sports and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He also dearly loved his niece and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre, and in his younger years was known for his enjoyment of water fights. A true passion of his was farming, and although he was not a full-time farmer, he worked part-time selflessly helping others. Keeping with his selfless nature, he also donated many gallons of blood throughout his life to the Red Cross.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Elsner of Charlotte, IA; a brother, Randy Elsner of Clinton, IA; sister, Denise "Dee" (Dennis) McGettigan of Mineral Point, WI; niece and nephews, Angie (Ulrich) Lehner, Dan (Kerrie) Chambers, and Jason (Teresa) Chambers; and 7 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
