Reflections of Life
Charles Edward "Buddy" Coleman was born to Lee and Alberta (May) Coleman on October 28, 1938 in Shuqualak, Mississippi. He was eighth of eleven beloved sisters and brothers. Charles received Christ as his Savior at the age of 12.
He moved to Omaha in the spring of 1959 where he met and married Sarah Devers and they raised three children (Phyllis, Danny, and Annette) together.
Charles worked for Hawkins Construction Company from 1963 until his retirement in 1999. He loved using that knowledge and always had some project going on at home and throughout Omaha as he always fulfilled requests from family, friends, and friends of friends.
He loved to travel and would embark on a new journey by car, with his family every summer throughout the U.S. and Canada, always making sure to stop and visit his parents and siblings along the way. Later in life, he discovered the joy of traveling by train, which he often did with his much beloved and long time companion, Beatrice "Bea" Larry.
Charles had another hobby, and that was bowling. He was a professional bowler and in his younger years, appeared as a regular on the television show "Bowling for Dollars", where he often won many top prizes. He taught his family the love of bowling and the trunk of his car was always filled with bowling bags, with him having at least three.
But none of these enjoyments surpassed the love and joy he gathered from his family. From the time his first grandchild, Jacky "Poo Poo" Smith was old enough to sit up on his own, they had a standing Saturday tradition of going to McDonalds for breakfast and then joining some of his buddies on 24th Street, laughing, talking and watching people go by.
Charles was also blessed to meet and become an "adoptive" father and grandfather to the six children and multiple grandchildren of his beloved Bea, often instilling his family values and knowledge of life. It was obvious that this family also became one of his greatest joys; his heart was just that big. The love and bond that he shared with the Larry family could be heard in his voice and seen by the twinkle in his eyes, especially when he spoke of his special "grandson" Elijah "Too Too" Rutledge.
Another sign of the bond that Charles had with the Larry family is that on the morning of his passing, his adopted granddaughter, Ashley Larry, was on her way to work when at 6:40 A.M., she say a sunrise that was so huge and bright, that she felt compelled to stop her car and take photos. She later later mentioned this to her grandmother who then informed her that at 6:40 A.M. was the time that her grandfather had left this earth. I their hearts, they both knew that this bright shinning sunlight was leading their dearly loved Charles on his journey to heaven.
Charles enjoyed life to the fullest and was always quick with a joke and a smile. As the saying goes, "he did not know a stranger."
Charles was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Sarah (Devers) Coleman; father, Lee Coleman; mother, Alberta (May) Coleman; sister, Mamie Lois "Jack" Dancy; brother, OC Coleman. He leaves behind, until they are reunited, daughters: Phyllis Schmidt of Beltsville, MD, Annette Nared of Omaha, NE; son, Danny Coleman (Kendall) of Omaha, NE; beloved companion, Beatrice "Bea" Larry of Omaha, NE; "adopted" bonus children: Angela Monegain, Tony Larry (Judy) of Papillion, NE, Lewis Larry of Omaha, NE, Gerald Larry (Joy) of Sierra Vista, AZ, Shiela Felix of Omaha, NE, Lori Larry (Jean) of Charlotte, NC; brothers: Thomas Wilson "Bear" Coleman of Green Bay, WI, Julius McArthur "Cricket" Coleman of St. Louis, MO, Reese "Pop" Coleman (Jessie) of Shuqualak, MS, sisters: Ira "Cute" Halbert, Marie "Honey" Goodwin, Marjorie "Sophia" Simms, Clytice "Kitty" Dancy, of St. Louis, MO and Yvonne "Sis" Streeter of Omaha, NE; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.

"My sincere condolences and prayers to the family, May the God of all comfort keep the family in his loving care and comfort during this difficult time. Jude 1:20,21 "
"Charles loved scripture and lived it throughout his life. One main scripture that he consistently showed was: Colossians 3:12-14 -- Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. "
