Oliver Ralph McGuire
March 19, 1932 - November 13, 2021

Oliver Ralph McGuire (our Ollie, Uncle Bud and Grandpa Bud) was a resident of Mukilteo, Washington for 50 years and a retired Boeing engineer. At age 89 Oliver took his "Freedom Flight" with the angels home, joining our Savior in Heaven at 3:33am on November 13th, 2021. We are grateful his wife, Ruth Edna (Hetzel) McGuire and oldest stepdaughter, Susan L. Crawford were allowed to join Ollie to embrace and surround him with love, while expressing their gratitude, deep appreciation and love for him, holding his hands and sitting by his side in his final hours at Providence Regional Medical, Everett, WA. and are grateful for the compassionate and wonderful care they provided.

Oliver was born on March 19, 1932 in Coldwater, Michigan to parents Samuel Oliver McGuire and Grace C. Beernink. He was married on December 27th, 1987 in Largo, Florida to Ruth his wife of 34 years. This was a very special moment as their marriage ceremony was performed by Oliver's niece Lorene McDonald.

Oliver attended Southside High School in Milwaukee, WI. Where he was in the National Honor Society. He went to college in Milwaukee and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Later, he served in the United States Army for eight years during the Korean War. He was honored with the National Defense service medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Merit Unit Commendation Korean Service Ribbon.
Oliver had a successful career at Boeing as a Propulsion Engineer. In his early years with Boeing, he lived in California and New Orleans. Oliver traveled to plane crash sites to investigate damaged engines in order to determine the cause of the crash. Later, his career brought him back to his home town of Quincy where he designed the engines on the plane that
carried the space shuttle and was honored and humbled to be sent to work with Nasa on the project.

Not only was Ollie a smart man, he was a wonderful, good man that was gentle, kind hearted, had a sense of humor, was extremely generous and most of all was a devoted, loving husband and stepfather. Oliver had a variety of interests that brought him joy. He enjoyed playing the saxophone before serving in the army and then played in the army band, loved camping, fishing, hiking as a mountaineer, was a hunter, golfer, bowler, coin and car collector, and real estate investor with his long time good friend Steve Hullman. He also enjoyed puzzles, board games, traveling and gardening with Ruth. Ollie especially loved caring for his rose gardens and dearly loved his cats. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.

Our family has been very blessed, will always be grateful and appreciative for the years that we had with Oliver Ralph McGuire. We loved him very much and will miss him always. We know he will always watch over his entire family.

Oliver was proceeded in death by his parents, Samuel and Grace, his sister Carol and her husband Phineas (Bill) Heckman and his brother-in-law, Arthur G. McDonald. He is survived by his wife Ruth E. (Hetzel) McGuire of Mukilteo, his sister Betty G. McDonald of Seminole and Ruskin Florida, his nephew Rick (Debra) McDonald, and five nieces, Lorene (Mitch) Blair, Linda (Steve) McNitt, Laura Graves, Toni (Mark) Dalchow, and Patricia Ludwick, many great nieces and nephews, and his three step-children, Steven (Jane) Crawford, Susan Crawford, Sheri (Scott) Morissey, and four step-grandchildren, Kristin, Shane, Ryan and Jessa.

Oliver was dearly loved by many and will be forever missed.

After many years of living with Parkinson's Disease and dementia, Oliver lived his final year and a half at First Choice Adult Family Home during the Covid-19 restrictions. We appreciate and honor the frontline staff for caring for our dear loved one during these unprecedented times.

We acknowledge with much gratitude all the kind expressions of sympathy and prayers. These messages mean so much during our time of sorrow. Peace, Love and Blessings Always.

Arrangements were entrusted to Solie Funeral Home and Crematory, Everett, WA. Due to Covid-19, there are no memorial events scheduled.
