Joyce J. Prchal
February 29, 1940 - February 21, 2022

Joyce J. Prchal of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on February 21, 2022.

Joyce was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on February 29, 1940, and was the daughter of Edith and Frank Prchal who preceded her in death. She graduated from Central High School in Omaha in 1957 and from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1961 where she was affiliated with Chi Omega Sorority.

After teaching one year at Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa, she relocated to Phoenix in 1962 and received a master's degree from ASU. Her career in education continued in 1963 as a Business Education Teacher at Alhambra High School. She remained in that position and as a Department Chairperson at Alhambra until 1978. Joyce then finished her 37-year tenure with the Phoenix Union High School District as a District Administrator for Vocational Education, retiring in 1999.

She was a lifetime member of the University of Nebraska Alumni Association and the National Education Association. In the latter years, Joyce served on the Board for Search Triad, an organization that helps to reunite families separated by adoption, foster care or divorce. She actively participated in the local chapters/support groups for Scleroderma and Sjogrens Syndrome. After retirement, she became an active volunteer at John C. Lincoln Hospital, North Mountain.

She is survived by extended family in Nebraska, North Carolina and Georgia and many friends. Joyce had never met a stranger. She made many friends in Arizona, most who became her family and way of life. She loved to travel and shop, was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan and always welcomes people into her home. Joyce kept close touch with High School and College friends. She never missed a reunion. Joyce was born with an abundance of quality characteristics: Kindness, love, giving and non-confrontational. She will be missed by many.

"Joyce was an active member of Search Triad Inc. for many years and never missed a Board Meeting unless she was in Nebraska for a football game. After our group dissolved, we met once a year for lunch so we could catch up. I will miss this very special friend. R.I.P. Joyce."
