Post 1856 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home.
Mark Allen Shivers was born on August 23, 1966, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to the late James and Tommie Mae Shivers. He was raised in Fort Dodge, where he graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1984. Mark then served in the U.S. Navy as a Machinist Mate until his honorable discharge in 1988, when he returned to Fort Dodge. Mark held jobs at USG and as a construction worker. Mark started his family and all three of his children were raised in Fort Dodge. Prior to Mark's passing, he worked many years as a driver for Mark's Auto Mart. He was also a business partner with his brother, Ira, at T.C. Mae's Family Diner until 2020. In 2018, Mark obtained his Associate of Arts degree in Human Services from Iowa Central Community College. Most recently, he was finishing his last semester of classes to obtain bachelor's degrees in Human Services and Criminal Justice from Buena Vista University.
Kind-hearted, giving, loving, friend, and mentor are just some of the words that describe who Mark was to those who were able to experience his presence and infectious smile. Mark had a deep love for many things including sports, helping others and most importantly his family and friends. He often spent weekends rooting for his beloved New York Giants or Alabama teams; you would often hear him yell, "ROLL TIDE!". Aside from football, he was traveling the state of Iowa promoting and attending MMA fights, having a front row seat at most. Mark was known by most as a man who was selfless, and who thrived on giving to others. He was committed to making this community a better place by holding many events to give back including Community Thanksgiving and Christmas gift baskets each year. He had a love and passion for giving and was the biggest supporter of so many; most likely you have a story or two of his generosity and uplifting words. Above all, nothing was more important to Mark than his family; he was a loving and loyal father, grandpa, brother, and uncle. Mark will be deeply missed by all who knew him, loved him and were impacted by his generosity.
Survivors include his daughter Jayne (Cory) Bartrom of Wesley, IA, son Devontae Shivers of Fort Dodge, daughter Marzia Shivers of Fort Dodge, three grandchildren Avery, Ariya, and Mavryck, siblings Florence Shivers, Billy Shivers (Barbara), Wynetta Brown, Michael Shivers, Joelaine Al-Hameed (Hammad), Dartonya Shivers (Rhonda), Ira Shivers (Jenny), Dixie Smith (Vern), Sheldon Shivers and Katario Roby.
