Harold Henry Fitch was born December 11, 1922, in Wesley, Iowa, the son of Edward and Rosa (Hix) Fitch. At a young age his family moved to the Burt area before moving to central Nebraska and then settling back in the Sexton area where he attended country school. After his schooling he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps for a while before going to Grand Island, Nebraska to work for a sheet metal company.
Later Harold entered the military and served his country in the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge Harold settled in Renwick and began farming.
On November 27, 1946, Harold was united in marriage to Arlene Eggerth at the St. Paul Lutheran Church Parsonage in Renwick, Iowa. After their marriage they lived and farmed near Renwick their entire lives. Harold enjoyed fishing, hunting and planting trees. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the American Legion Harvey-McPeak Post #289 of Renwick.
Harold died Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at the Humboldt Care Center South in Humboldt, Iowa. He was 88.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene Fitch of Renwick; daughter, Joan Fort and Robert Cross of Humboldt; son, Allen and Susan Fitch of Holstein; grandchildren, Darlene Box, Donald Box and Dixie Miller all of Humboldt, Randy Pedersen of Newell, Christa Thompson of Waterloo, Steven Fitch of Fonda, Andrew Broesder of Des Moines and Lanae Broesder of Ames; great-grandchildren, Keisha, Kolton, BreAnna, Brooklyn, Brewster, Hailey, Donovan, Austin, Nathan, Belle and Grace; sister, Esther and Andrew Miller of Cedar Rapids and brother-in-law, Martin Zimmerman of Whittemore and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Victor and Chester Fitch, Leona Williams, Lyle Fitch, Lois Zimmerman and Edna Lange.
