In loving memory of

Gordon Hultz
April 23, 1953 - January 31, 2022

Gordon "Buddy" Hultz, age 68, of Payson, died Monday, January 31, 2022, at 4:21 am in his home.

Gordon was born April 23, 1953 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Lester LeRoy Westlake and Maizie Mae Jones Hultz Cochran. He married Mary Lou Abernathy on November 10, 1971 in Parkview Church, Quincy, Illinois. She survives.

He graduated from Quincy High School in 1971. Gordon worked at Titan Wheel for over 30 years, and always looked forward to the weekly Wednesday retirees breakfast club.

He had a love for antique cars. He was especially proud of his collection; which included a '55, '56, and '57 Chevy, in addition to many others. Gordon was a huge NHRA racing fan but enjoyed all racing. He would participate in drag races in Havana, Illinois, and went to races all over the area. He especially enjoyed watching the races in St. Louis. In years past he enjoyed fishing and loved building and working on engines. He was also an avid Illini basketball fan and watched every game he could. Gordon's greatest joy was watching his grandchildren grow up. He was always there to watch and support them in whatever they were doing, be it school sports, other school activities, giving a speech, whatever it was. His onery sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, Mary Lou, Gordon is survived by: a daughter, Nora Alta Hultz (Joe) Klingele of Plainville, IL; a son, Gordon LeRoy Hultz, II of Quincy; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Hannah of Quincy, Nicholas and Christian of Plainville, Abbey, Emma, Kenzie and Delaney, all of Quincy; three sisters, Barbara Smith of Mendon, IL, Susan Conover of Stillwell, IL, and Mary Lynn Marthler of Quincy; and a brother, Thomas Hultz of Strawberry Plains, TN.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, George Hultz.

Services: A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 12, 2022, in Payson New Cemetery, Payson, IL, with Pastor Richie Brumbaugh officiating. There will be no visitation.
