"Laurie and family, So very sorry for your loss. Sending our deepest condolences. Darwin and Sue Britton"
With profound sadness we announce the passing of our beautiful matriarch, Monica Ann Neldberg. Our mother quietly slipped away in the early morning hours of January 25, 2022 at age 86.
Monica was born on April 7, 1935 to John and Laura (Drake) Gunville in Kingsford, Michigan. Her parents aptly nicknamed her "Rose." For all that knew her, it was fitting. She was beautiful. Just like a rose symbolizes eternal love, that is how she lived her life. Loving endlessly and deeply.
On September 5, 1953, she wed the love of her life, Robert Charles Neldberg. Together, they welcomed four children. Laurie (Doug) Weesen of Marquette, Robert Todd Neldberg of Palm Desert, California, Heidi (Mike) Walsh of Grosse Point, Michigan and Jacqueline Neldberg DePetro of Gilbert, Arizona. Monica was a devoted wife and mother. A natural teacher at heart, she effortlessly passed on the importance of good grammar, generosity, appreciation of the arts, and conducting oneself with grace and class.
Monica and Bob enjoyed many happy years traveling. Her favorite trip, the one to China. It brought them immense joy and pride to have the opportunity to travel the world. For decades Monica was the "great woman behind the man" as Bob excelled in his career at Marquette General Hospital. In retirement they were blessed spending nearly all their time together. They cherished their East Bass Lake home hosting family members, friends and grandchildren on innumerable joyful occasions. Bob and Monica enjoyed spending time at "ching-a-ling" (casino) their guilty pleasure. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before Bob passed away on May 31st, 2015.
Monica shared an undeniable love for her grandchildren. The love and support she bestowed upon them was heartwarming. The grandchildren will fondly remember the celebrations that she hosted over the holidays. The house would be transformed to a magical wonderland every year. Her sense of style and beauty resonated in every corner of her warm welcoming home. She was the epitome of the grandest of grandmothers. She was generous and kind, and always there for everyone. She leaves behind her adoring grandchildren: Drew and Tyler Weesen, Elizabeth Kutter and Monica Stroh, Cole DePetro, Olivia Levine, and Rachel DePetro. She was preceded in death by her grandson Robert Dane Neldberg. In addition, Monica was blessed with 6 great grandchildren. Jackson DePetro, Christopher and Georgia Kutter, Asher and Scarlett Levine and Vivian Weesen
Monica leaves behind her last living sibling and best friend, Larry Gunville. The love and devotion they shared was inspiring.
The loss that we feel is intense. Our shining star, our beautiful mother, grandmother, great grandmother is gone from this earthly world. She was a lovely woman inside and out. Kind and sweet to all who met her. Her light has dimmed but her star will always shine brightly in our memories.
A casual gathering with food and fellowship to celebrate Monica's life will be held on Saturday, September 10th from 2 until 5 p.m. at 430 Brickyard Road, Marquette, MI 49855.
Thanks to the compassionate staff at Mill Creek Assisted Living and East Nursing Center, Monica's life was enriched and comfortable.
Memorial gifts can be directed to the Community Foundation of Marquette County for the "Playground for All" fund. Po Box 37, Marquette, Michigan, 49855 or online at www.kidscovemqt.com

"I have a grateful memory of both Monica and Bob when I was traveling with my children and ran into them at the hotel where we were all staying We had a nice chat and they were immensely welcoming and supportive "
" Monica was a very Dear and Special friend for many years. I?m so glad I visited with her a few days before she left us all. We spoke of the special trip on a Mediterranean Cruise that She & Bob and four other couples enjoyed with me many years ago. We spoke about how when in Monaco at The Famous Casino she won some coins and as she did so and cheered the Butler said ?Madama Shhh?. She kept lol just the same. Such good and special memories that I am so glad I had a chance to recall with her that day last week Friday. ?"
"Jackie - so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful mother. You and your family are in my thoughts. Hugs. "
