In loving memory of

Donald Dean Krough
November 10, 1936 - January 17, 2022

Donald Dean Krough was born on November 10, 1936, at home in Armstrong, Iowa to Ralph and Gertrude McAffee Krough. Don passed away on January 17, 2022, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital surrounded by family.

Don grew up in Maple Hill, Iowa, with his three younger sisters. He attended and graduated from Armstrong High School in 1955. Don then chose to attend Estherville Community College where he continued his love for sports by playing on the basketball and baseball teams. Don graduated from college and went on to a career in banking in Estherville, Iowa. He worked in banking for over 45 years.

Don married the love of his life, Marvis Jean Anderson on May 10, 1957. They were blessed with four children together: Julie, Thomas, Larry, and Karilee. Don and Marvis raised their children in Des Moines and then Fort Dodge, Iowa. During this time, the family built their dream retirement home on High Lake, Iowa. They were able to move into their dream home when Don retired in 1999. Many memories with family and friends were created here over the years. Don and Marvis eventually moved to Denison, Iowa to be closer to family.

Don was involved in Kiwanis, Emmet County Museum, an election official, Jack creek cemetery board, and various church activities through the years. Don always had a positive outlook on life and was hardly ever seen without a smile on his face. Don loved spending time with his family and friends, and never knew a stranger that didn't eventually become a friend. He loved to talk and always made an effort to include anyone in a conversation. If not telling stories, Don could be found watching his favorite baseball team, the Yankees.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Gertrude. Don is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Marvis, his children; Julie (Mark) Magennis, Tom (Becky) Krough, Larry (Cheryl) Krough, Kari (Scott) Meyer, 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and his three sisters, Judy, Nancy, and Ginger.

Memorial Service is 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 21, 2022 at United Presbyterian Church in Denison. Memorials may be directed to the family .

"The first and only time I ever had the pleasure of meeting Don was this past summer when he and his lovely wife were here in Platte City visiting their daughter Julie and her husband Mark. It was a beautiful sunny day and we stood outside sharing conversation about our lives and experiences, the things we had in common but mostly about how lovely it was to be meeting for the first time, and how we had this mural love and respect for their daughter Julie! I remember thinking how blessed I was to have finally met the man that Julie has spoken of so lovingly and so often. Within just a few short moments I knew I had met someone so genuinely kind and special, with a contagious joyful spirit! As we parted that day, I wished we had more time together, but somehow felt I?d known him all my life! I so looked forward to the next visit. Don, you have left us with your essence of love and joy, I?m so blessed to have met you, I shall never forget you!?? Until we meet again, enjoy Paradise!"

"Some of my fondest childhood memories were the trips to the A-frame. Don (a.k.a. "Larry's Dad") was always welcoming. You will be missed. ?"
