"I just read about Mike's passing in the MCW alum news. I didn't know Mike well, but we were on the same third year clinical track and did our vascular surgery rotation together as M3s. Mike was so kind, calm, humble--a peaceful presence. I've always remembered him as someone who helped me cope during that stressful time. I'm not surprised to hear about his devotion to his family or his success as a psychiatrist. You are in my thoughts and prayers; may your memories of him be a blessing. "

"I met Mike during our freshman year at MUHS and we immediately became friends. I will always remember his kind, gentle spirit. He was a regular fixture at our lunch table which was one of the distinctly funniest and happiest parts of my childhood. I will remember his wit, his passion for running, his calm demeanor, and his penchant for Lorna Doones! We will miss you, Mike. My sympathies and prayers are with the entire Papin family at this time. God bless."

"As a patient of Dr. Papin, I found him to be very compassionate, respectful and caring. No judgement. Very gentle.
Even after his surgery and rehab, he was able to return to his practice, which I greatly appreciated. He was the best psychiatrist I ever had. May he rest in peace. My sympathies to the family. He was a good man. Fondly, Joyce Tredeau"

Paul Burkhardt wrote on Jan 18, 2022:
"There were a few years through high school where I feel like I was with Mike most days -- working, running, studying. He was so determined in whatever he did. Dylan lyrics were analyzed and corresponding cassettes catalogued as methodically as his homework. I can picture his handwriting. Limits were pushed whether they pertained to cross country, shifts at the summer job, sometimes even how much Mike could eat! That period of growth was so rich and still vivid to me. Throughout it he was there: competitive, modest, frank, caring, supportive, smiling. I'm so grateful to have known you, Mike. Love, Paul "

"For me, here are no memories of MUHS cross country, track, or working in the lemonade stand that don?t include Mike in some way. A great teammate and friend, he was kind with a great sense of humor, and didn?t hesitate to share that infectious smile. Rest In Peace, I?ll be thinking about you on the long run."

"Mike Papin was in every part of my childhood. When I think of Mike, I remember Holy Family basketball, Little League, Camp Minikani and walking home from school with Cory Hammen. Mike was also a good friend at Marquette High School; we ran cross country but of course Mike was in an elite class of long-distance runner next to me. I remember Oakland Avenue and Lorna Doone cookies, and I remember and treasure Mike?s kindness, gentleness, humor, uniqueness and intelligence. Lake Drive will never be the same without Mike Papin running up and down her sidewalks. All my condolences and prayers are with the entire Papin family, who I have known most of my life. God bless you all. Love -- Chris Gallagher"
