Greece: Passed away January 12, 2022. Retired NYS Supreme Court Judge and Monroe County Surrogate Court Judge. He was a graduate of Aquinas Institute ('62), St. John Fisher College ('66) and St. John's University Law School ('69).

The true measure of a man is not the treasure he has accrued not the awards he has received, but the footprints he has left in people's lives. Ed walked through life leaving positive imprints on everyone he met. He looked to help others by lifting them up through mentoring, coaching, teaching and encouraging them to reach beyond what they thought they could do. Ed achieved this through volunteering in numerous community organizations, youth sports leagues, Italian community groups, church committees and political groups. He welcomed people with his engaging personality and took joy in his daily encounters with peers, family, friends and even strangers. Everyone was equal in his eyes.

During his celebrated legal career, Ed was responsible for digitizing the case management system for the Monroe County Surrogate Courts, a change that was later adopted statewide and greatly contributed to the efficiency and transparency of the court system. Ed also served his community as a Justice of Supreme Court for the 7th Judicial District of New York, working to expedite the disposition of cases and streamline proceedings of the court. In his time outside of work, Ed acted as an active member, lecturer, and board member for numerous organizations pertaining to the legal profession, educational institutions, and Italian cultural tradition.

Ed is predeceased by his parents Thomas and Angela Calvaruso; brother Francis (Annette) Calvaruso Esq.; father-in-law John Wheeler and infant nephew Aiden Wheeler. He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne (Wheeler) Calvaruso; children Andrea Esq. and Matthew Perron, Dr. Francine Calvaruso, Todd and Stephanie Calvaruso; grandchildren, TJ, Cody and Savannah Calvaruso; mother-in-law Carole Wheeler; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, beloved cousins and friends. A special thank you to the staff of ICU at Unity Hospital. Even while working under grueling conditions you took the time to offer compassionate care to Ed and his family. True heroes.

Ed's life story will be shared during visitation, 2:00 - 6:00 pm on Sunday, January 16th at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane. ***His Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 18th at Holy Cross Church, 4492 Lake Avenue. Please remember that masks are required for all services. The service will be live streamed at https://holycrossrochester.org/. Contributions in his memory can be made to Holy Cross School, 4488 Lake Ave, Rochester, NY 14612 or Aquinas Institute, 1127 Dewey Ave, Rochester, NY 14613

"Judge Calvaruso was a great jurist and an even better person. It is without exaggeration to say that without the privilege of knowing him, I would not be who I am today, as he was my mentor and my friend. The world is a lesser place without him, but his impact continues through the countless lives he positively touched."

"Dear Joann and Family, The last time had seen Ed was at the swearing in ceremony for Elena Cariola. I was passing by the table he was sitting at and he hollered "hay cugino" as I was passing, I spoke briefly with him that day and now wish I took more time to do so. We were second cousins and everyone I knew in the Italian community always spoke highly of him and what a great guy he was. I know he will be missed by all the people he knew. God Bless You All. "Rest In Peace, Brother. It is fortunate that the AQ '62 classmates got together via Zoom in time for us to see and hear Ed last year. Of all the accomplished men in our class, Doctors, Professors, Counselors, good men all--It was Ed who went the farthest. Some of us chaired departments; he sat on the Bench as a Judge. Some of us are physicians who heal people, he streamlined the arcane court system at home and then statewide. I'll always remember Ed's positive outlook, whether in Latin or English class, or on the playing field. In the great beyond--where Ed now looks out for us all--if he pleads our case, we'll all get to heaven. Lillian and I were fortunate to spend time with Ed in person at our 45th reunion. How quickly the 60th has come. How swiftly life passes. "

"I always say Edmond was my cousin, but in reality he was my Uncle Tony?s cousin. My FAVORITE memory was staying at my Uncles apartment, going through the ?secret door? to Aunt Babes apartment. He was always a sweet guy who played with me and my cousin Roseanne. We would slide down the stair banister at Aunt Babes and he would catch us. He was so patient then and patient throughout his life. Since he was young, he has been a wonderful, kind man!!! He will be truly missed! Bob and I both send our love and condolences to Joanne and their families. "

"I was the Monroe County Sheriffs deputy that was assigned to Judge Calvaruso both in supreme and surrogate courts for over 10 years, In that time our relationship went from Judge and Deputy to trusted friends, he had a heart of gold and never turned anyone away who was in need of assistance, advice or a shoulder to learn on. He honored a persons loyalty and honesty as did those who came to see him daily. I was extremely saddened at his passing, I know he will be dearly missed, I will miss our lunch?s and speaking with him, my sincere condolences and prayers to his wife Joanne and his entire family,,, RIP your honor you?re with God now!!
