Norma Jean Basnett
October 31, 1933 - January 10, 2022

Norma Jean Basnett, age 88, of Quincy, died Monday, January 10, 2022, at 9:43 am in Blessing Hospital.

Norma was born October 31, 1933 in Palmyra, Missouri, the daughter of Walter and Selma H. Schneider Hoenes. She married William R. Basnett on September 20, 1950 in New London, MO. He preceded her in death on November 30, 1995.

Norma attended Palmyra High School where she was active in Glee Club and Future Home Makers. Norma was a life-long member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. She had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Palmyra and St. James Lutheran Church in Quincy. Norma was an active member who was involved in both the church choir and Katie's Ladies.

Norma loved to travel, and she had visited over 40 states, including Alaska. She even spent a season working at Yellowstone National Park. Norma's travels also took her to Europe and the Bahamas. Norma loved singing and dancing to music of all types, and she was an avid reader and photographer.

Most of all, Norma cherished the time that she spent with family and friends. She will always be remembered as the wellspring of love and encouragement that made her family flourish.

Survivors include her daughter, Valeria (Steve) Hubbard of Pinson, AL; her son, Sheldon (Carolyn) Basnett of West Bloomfield, MI; nine grandchildren: Christy Hubbard of Pinson, AL; Steve (Jamie) Hubbard of Pinson, AL; Michael Hubbard of Pinson, AL; Cassandra Rapert of Franklin, TN; Nicole Yannizzi of Springfield, MO; Brock (Karen) Basnett of Morton, IL; Kelly Basnett of Grosse Pointe, MI; Christopher (Jessica) Basnett of Farmington Hills, MI; and James Basnett of Oxford, MI; and 11 great grandchildren: Cameron, William, Riley, Emma, Ethan, Bradley, Johnathan, Taylor, Tanner, Ellie, and Lauren.

In addition to her husband, Norma was preceded in death by her parents; a son, William Basnett; two sisters: Glenna Jefferies and Ida Katherine Hoenes; and a brother, William Hoenes.

Services: 12:00 pm Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Rev. Marlin Rempfer officiating.

Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois

Visitation: 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Friday January 14, 2022 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
