In loving memory of

Mark A. Gold
January 6, 2022

Dr. Mark A. Gold, age 63, of Quincy, died on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at 11:23 am in Blessing Hospital.

Mark was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Ronald and Barbara Gold.

Mark wanted to be a brain surgeon since he was five years old. He has been a board certified neurosurgeon for over 30 years. Mark was a physician at Quincy Medical Group and performed neurosurgery at Blessing Hospital. Mark was once told that he spent too much time with his patients, and his response was "I give the patients all the time I feel they need from me. Period. End of Story." Mark was a caring doctor and had a gentle, loving soul.

He was the best husband, father, son and brother a family could have. Mark had a big heart and would do anything to help his family, friends, patients or anyone he met.

Mark loved to travel and photography was a hobby of his. He enjoyed watching his children play golf and serving as their caddy when they were little.

Survivors include his wife, Nicole Gold of Quincy; four children, Gabriel and Sophia Gold, both of Quincy, Matthew Gold of California, and Joshua Gold of Nevada; his mother, Barbara Gold of Arizona; two sisters, his twin, Mindy (Steven) Lichtblau, and Dina (Michael) Walling, both of Arizona; a cousin, Cory Sloman of Arizona; many nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Shelly Roth of Arizona.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Gold.

Mark's family would like to extend their thanks to the nurses, doctors and all the staff at both Quincy Medical Group and Blessing Hospital who cared for Mark during his prolonged illness.

Services: A private memorial service will be held in Arizona.

"I worked with Dr Gold many years ago when he saw patients at Southeast GA Medical Center in Brunswick. Though this was 20 years ago, he was the first person that came to mind when I thought of asking a physician to do a presentation at an upcoming Trauma Grand Rounds at my current hospital. I was deeply saddened to learn of Dr Gold's passing. An amazing Dr and human being, he will be missed. Karen Hust, MSN, RN"

"Dr. Gold was my physician for my back injury. He was well spoken about throughout our community for being a great physician. He definitely lived up to those spoken about him. He truly cared about my health and well-being as person. I always enjoyed having follow up visits with him. They were filled with conversation about our recent travels and diving or snorkeling adventures. I never got a chance to hear if he was able to make it to Isla Mujeres to snorkel with the shark whales. He will definitely be missed in the community by those he helped. Our deepest sympathy is with his family."

"I didn?t know Dr. Gold for very long but I am sure glad I met him. He performed cervical disc replacement for me about 18months ago after no one else wanted to. He actually listened to my needs, a very rare attribute for most physicians, unfortunately anymore. My first visit with him was nearly an hour. He was a patient?s doctor-kind, caring, thorough, and talented. Prayers for his family. Chad Lehenbauer, DVM"

"Mark was incredible even in the midst of his battle with his health. I hadn?t seen him in over a year, but while doing my lab work I heard a gentle voice call my name. I turned to see Mark in a wheelchair waiting for his lab work. After our visit he wished me well and told me to take care of myself. The next day Mark would leave us, but his amazing life will continue to live n all of our hearts. Our love and prayers for his precious family. Larry Smith"

"I am so sorry for your loss - Mark was a great doctor and a great guy. He was skilled, compassionate, hard working and had a quick wit and a great genuine laugh. He was remarkably humble and self deprecating for one so accomplished. I had the privilege of working with him for several years in Brunswick, GA before he relocated. He served as chief of the department of surgery when my wife and I arrived in town in 2001 and he went out of his way to welcome us to the medical staff. I always enjoyed running into him in the hallways, the lounge or the OR - he always took time for everyone and never seemed rushed and always had a good story to share. It was very sad when he and his wonderful family left town - we hoped one day he might return to live and practice here. Nicole, Gabriel and Sophia, Matthew and Joshua please know that your husband and dad left a lot of friends and grateful patients here in Southeast Georgia and he will be missed by many I know. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time. Bill and Tina Mitchell. "

"So tragic. RIP to an incredible doctor who helped so many people and who was amazing to work with. I remember vividly how he would lend a hand moving patients or offered to help me clean up a patient after their MRI. That kind of dedication and hands on help isn?t always offered or expected from a physician; but he was always helping any way he could and no job was below him. Many thoughts and prayers to his family . I?m so saddened by his passing and the hole it leaves in the community. He was a great physician and an amazing person. "
