"I'm so very sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. I have many wonderful memories of our times together in Fairmount. I was born and raised there, but moved to Chicago when I was 11-years old. After we moved, I spent several weeks every summer visiting my grandmother, Mary Haisley, who lived on Wilson St. The summer of 1967 was no exception. After graduating from high school I decided to spend some time in Fairmount. My memory has become a little blurred over the years, but I remember hanging out with Jerry and somehow talking him into enlisted in the Marine Corps with me. We left Indianapolis for boot camp in San Diego on October 30, 1967 as part of Hoosier Platoon 1108. We still have Platoon 1108 reunions every year and Jerry attended several of those. After graduation from boot camp we went our separate ways, but I did run into him in Vietnam in 1968. I still have the letter he wrote to my parents after I was wounded a few months later. So many amazing memories of our time together in Fairmount as teenagers and in the Marine Corps. You will be greatly missed my friend. Semper Fidelis Steve Haisley Vernon Hills, IL"
